I sold an iPhone 11 but forgot to move the number to a different device before month end. Now 6 weeks have passed and my account is suspended, and the phone I sold is still tied to my account. The buyer is not able to switch to the new phone she bought. Getting error "device already in use by another subscriber". I don't have access to my online account. How can I help her? How long before the device IMEI is released?

60 days after activation. You can try to call metro and ask them to remove your acct completely.

once second unpaid bill due date hits 60 days after activation they delete the account and phone IMEI is free.

You should of swapped the device on Metro App before selling to another unlock phone to free up the iphone IMEI

Had this happen. They have to go instore & give the 8 digit PW you set up. Without that impossible.

thank you all ! I just called metro to reactivate my account so I could release the IMEI of the phone I sold. It cost me $30 but at least the buyer doesn't have to wait till 60 day mark. Lesson learnt !!

Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:
  • The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
  • The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
  • Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."
Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...

I wish they had put "Effective xx/xx/xx" to remove any ambiguity.

Anyway, no more Metro devices for me.

Interesting that they don't make mention of having "active service" for 365 days.

I agree that it likely will be effective immediately, but if they put "Effective 5/8/2024" then they can't try to apply it retroactively to devices bought before today.

IAttached is a screenshot of the old 180-day policy with 5/4/2024 date in the lower-right corner, in case someone needs it to fight Metro.

I don't know if it's due to some agreement that T-mo made with the FCC. I think Verion made an agreement with the FCC to unlock their phones after 60 days from activation in order to be allowed to buy some frequency bands, but requiring active service is not in the agreement. Tracfone (bought by Verizon on 11/23/2021) now unlocks their phones after 60 days from activation but I've had my TF phones unlocked with only 30 days of service. Before 11/23/2021, TF required 360 days of paid service to unlock.

Depending on how this policy is implemented on the backend, this change could affect previously sold phones. If they populate their database with device's unlocking date at the time of activation then there should be no issues with anything sold prior to today. However, if they take device's activation date and then add the configured duration when someone tries to unlock then this change will be retroactive.
