Only the first two seasons were good. Last two should probably never been made.

If you just watch season 1 and treat it like an ambiguously ended miniseries, I think it's some of the best TV of all time. Later seasons still look slick, have good performances, etc, but they're kind of a mess in storytelling. S1 is an absolute masterpiece.

Hot mess at the end but they should have given it one more season to see where if it landed somewhat gracefully or careened into the ground. Crazy that HBO axed it and then took the seasons off the air.

A lot of people really enjoyed season 4. I hear season 3 was pretty terrible. I only watched 1 and 2 as well and I didn't care for it because I didn't like how it jumped in the timeline so much.

Seasons 1 and 2 were really good because it wasn't a convoluted mess like 3 & 4 were. If you realize this show is packed with predictive programming, you'll see why they made seasons 3 and 4 the way they did.

I loved season 1. Season 2 wasn't "bad" from what I recall but it got too trippy/esoteric for me to feel as invested, or follow the plot.

It kinda makes sense the show would suffer, because the original hit movie of westworld written by Michael Crichton (who also wrote jurassic park, etc) was one movie. It's sequel (1980) had different writers. It's kinda like how game of thrones was destined to decline after season 4.

I had heard that before watching the series but ended up loving all four seasons and was sorely disappointed that there wasn't a fifth and final season.
