I hold a master's degree in electrical engineering specializing in electronics; a simulated sine-wave is more than sufficient for 99% of today's home electronics. Power supplies are designed to support a varying range of voltage inputs, allowing a single supply to be used across most of the world. Therefore, they can easily account for subtle variations in voltages from a simulated wave.

I would be shocked to see a Sony device fail because it ran on a simulated sine wave or to have a warranty denied because of it, unless they specifically state not to use one.

This are good overviews:

I'm curious if you just unplugged the TV from the simulated battery backup device and hid the battery backup device in the other room if they would have honored the warranty?
FWIW, I have the earlier version of this UPS, GX1325U, and was able to get replacement batteries for $14+SH & tax...

My old CyberPower CP1000PFCLCD suddenly stopped working out of nowhere. Doesn't provide any power even when plugged into power and just makes a clicking noise (approx every second).

Not sure whether to try to replace the battery (still has stock battery from 2016) or this issue means I need to replace the whole device.

On another note, is the UPS in this deal sold in Costco warehouses or online only?

Every time I've looked into replacing a battery in a UPS, the replacement cost + shipping has been almost the same as a new unit. You might save like $20 but have to wait a week and still have your same old unit (which might need more than just a battery). The batteries also seem to be non-returnable a lot of the time.

Id say if you have a battery store nearby that might have a replacement battery (and you can test it), maybe go for that (assuming the price is better than the manufacturer), otherwise I'd just go for a new unit. These $100-125 units sometimes seem to be even cheaper than the replacement battery.

The CyberPower units won't pass AC power if the batteries are bad, even if the unit is plugged into the mains. (APC units, on the other hand, pass through AC power even if batteries are bad. However, that leaves you to realize that the batteries are bad at the moment of a power outage.)

Shipment arrived yesterday. The box looked like it was dropped off an airplane and dragged through the jungle before getting here. Would suggest picking up in store if available as some reviews shared similar experience.
