ATT return policy says, if you cancel with 3 days to waive the activation and 14 days to cancel the line. pick up in store to avoid activation fee. if you want to do the deal online you can get a Google voice/tello number and port it over. otherwise you can get a new number in store.

I was able to order.
Had extra number on Xfinity.

But they just asked
Phone#, ZIP and Acct#.

No security PIN.. Xfinity generated a PIN for this.

They'll ask again before porting?

They might. att.com/portstatus is a place to check but wait for them to create the account.

When the total order comes back as 0.00$, does that mean the port was successful? I honestly went back and forth so often in the browser, I am not sure I ported the number. I didn't have to set up an appointment and pickup tomorrow seems set up

I didn't have to do anything , I just waited for the next page to load and it took like 10-15 seconds to load the BB order confirmation page

Since it is $0, I have to enter a credit card in order for the order to complete. That is queer.

So my checkout was failing
I didn't check my email while I was doing this

Just saw 1 hr ago there was email from ATT and it has an 4 digit account number. WTF. but I never did the checkout. see below

Sorry, missed reading all the comments but I am able to place order with my current att account by adding a new line WITHOUT port-in and order went through. What am I missing here?
