Era 300s are a much better upgrade from Play Ones. I use them for rear surrounds. However, they are enormous in size by comparison. Make sure they pass the wife test first. Era 100's aren't an upgrade to Play One's. Sonos may still have their 30% trade in coupon option (where you don't actually trade anything in) and a pair of Era 300's was $625+tax.

That's not at all what they do. You can still use the old unit, they don't disable it.

Probably decent. Imo I'd rather upgrade to era 300 (better Atmos) or downgrade to Sonos Ones (about 2/3 or half the price, probably 8-90% of the performance, which for rears isn't that noticable) or even ikea symfonisk

Edit: Refurbished One SL (no voice assistant) are on sale right now for $119 each, so $240 for a pair.

I've heard good things about Sonos refurb in that they're basically new, but up to individual preference.

I'd check the features list to see if there are things from Era 100 that you really want, but this will be fairly good audio compared to Era 100 and much cheaper because they're being discontinued. If you're using these for surround audio, I'd totally just get the One SL, if you're using it for music listening, the decision is a bit more nuanced.

Are these a good option to pair as rears with the Arc in a bedroom?

What do you mean by you don't trade anything in? How does that work? Thanks

You give Sonos the serial number of your current unit, and if eligible, they give/gave you a discount to purchase a newer model. You get to keep your current unit, but can't use it again as part of the "upgrade" program.

Edit: it looks like the deal is dead, but for reference: https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/925759

That's dumb. Why would they disable it if they don't take it. I can sell it later if i want. Corporate America has gone too far on greed. I buy stuff I own it. Manufacturer shouldn't be able to disable anything remotely unless they refund me entire price I paid.

The terms clearly state you can still use the device after it has been used towards an upgrade, it just cannot be used for an upgrade more than once.

If you choose to trade in, then why you think you still have the ownership of the old ones?

Maybe think of it more as a "loyalty" reward for being a current Sonos owner.

I don't think they disable it, you just can't use it again for their upgrade.

in your defence, the wording was kind of confusing.
> You get to keep your current unit, but can't use it again as part of the "upgrade" program
means you can't use the discount again, not that you can't use the device. Originally the upgrade program actually did disable the device in fact, but they walked back on that a while ago.
