Deal History includes data from multiple reputable stores, such as Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. The lowest price among stores for a given day is selected as the "Sale Price".
Sale Price does not include sale prices at Amazon unless a deal was posted by a community member.
There is another promo code underneath the title on NE that gives $75 off making it the same price. It is a different code than what's listed on this page as you stated.
If we are picky about which drives to choose, is there a good resource to reference that helps us navigate the options and make comparisons, since there are so many flavors and variations of drives now?
Interested to optimize spin up and seek times, and minimize sound for a desktop.
Also separately interested in which drives to consider for a synology NAS for multimedia served to appletv .
Is there a flowchart like tool to help select which drives best fits a application and desired attributes?
enterprise drives are fine for NAS, they're spec'ed higher for irrecoverable error rates by an order of magnitude < 1 in 10^15 vs 10^14 (in NAS spec'ed drives)
the only caveats would be they may generate more noise and consume a little more power than NAS-rated drives as the use case is data center vs. small cabinet NAS.

Is this drive good to use for a NAS set up?

You'll almost certainly receive white label OEM drives and Seagate will not honor the warranty. I returned my order and just went direct to WD after the hassle I experienced with Newegg and these drives.

Maybe YMMV, but I've ordered Exos HDDs that were shipped and sold by Newegg in the past and they were all legit retail drives and Seagate honored the full warranty term. If you buy and try to register the drives on the Seagate site and it fails, return them.

Same experience with Exos shipped and sold from newegg.
Backblaze has a site that list failure rates of their drives. In 2023 they had 60 of the Seagate ST18000NM000J with 5 failures (5.06%). Not a very good number but the sample size of only 60 drives makes it hard to determine if this data is significant enough to determine the reliability of this drive. https://www.backblaze.com/blog/ba...-for-2023/

It's very possible YMMV and for the record mine were shipped and sold by Newegg. They came in open boxes and 3 of them had noticeable dents in the case. Seagate told me they were OEM drives and that the vendor I bought them from would provide the warranty. When I asked newegg about it they said Seagate would provide the warranty. Just wasn't a comforting experience when I was dealing with 6 drives and all of them were white labeled.

For enterprise class drives, it's mostly either the WD Ultrastar or Seagate Exos and there isn't a ton of difference between them. Regarding optimizing spin-up, it depends what you mean. High capacity drives are generally slow to spin up. Some of these drives have an option for low current spin-up, which reduces power draw (during spin-up) but will make it take even longer. I haven't seen any modern drives that allow the user to adjust seek performance. Some older drives had a feature (AAM) which allowed the user to adjust between lower noise or faster seeks. Today, consumer drives seem factory tuned for quieter seeks and enterprise drives for faster/louder seeks. As for noise, enterprise drives are often appreciably louder. The case and drive mount can make it much more noticeable. I hope this helps.

wrong, Seagate should honor the warranty as Newegg IS an authorized reseller vs an OEM.
also your recourse would be through Newegg if denied - but if you retain the receipt you have proof (it's online as well)
