Aaaahhhh just found reason:

New process of producing OLEDs without rare earth minerals.

"The new process, in simplest terms, involves replacing those rare minerals with not-so-rare -- and therefore more affordable --- minerals. Diving into the science, the process involves grinding manganese bromide with benzyltriphenylphosphonium bromide. That solution is then dissolved into single MnBz crystals, which are used to create a light-emitting device (the LED part of OLED)."

So likely we see prices continue downward!

If the deal is dead, how do you get BB to price match?

Edit: disregard, seen earlier replies. That's absolutely lucky! Congrats!

The Item is back up and Sold and Shipped by Amazon but it has a coupon that only takes $374.55 off the $2496.99 price. Now it's $2122.44.
I guess the good deal everyone talked about is gone.

Bought and setup the Samsung S89C this past Saturday from BestBuy at $1799. Love it and it looks great. Trying to determine if it makes sense at all to return and get this. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't get all the Samsung hate, Samsung has always been really good to me and I have a lot of their stuff.

Retuning such a large TV will be a task but if there's good reason, I'll do it. 😁
I'm in the same boat after doing the same with a 83" S90 for $2250 I just couldn't take the weakness of the WOLED vs the QD-OLED from Samsung (they seem to put most of their efforts into making QD-OLED shine and definitely don't do nearly as much with their WOLED offerings so far)

BUT I also have a smaller c3 here for my PC setup and it really is an incredible looking display even being a WOLED and in some ways id say better than the QD-OLED.

Yet it doesn't have the punch of the QD-OLED and the brighter the colors get the more washed out they look while the QD-OLED keeps them very good looking even at high brightness.

When the S89 77" QD-OLED was $1799 and the c4 was $2400 it was easy to 100% say the S89 was the way to go but now that I can get a 77" C4 for even less now I'm struggling.... Again!! 🤣

I don't think I would notice how incredible the colors and brightness are on the QD-OLED if I took it off the wall and just swapped it out for the c4.

But seeing them side by side, it really does make it hard to give that up basically for a much better OS and Dolby Vision.

Decisions decisions...

Well, sorry a simple web search would have answered my question. I'll sit on what I have. Seems Rtings likes both models nearly that same, not much to be gained by switching. Fits nicely in my Samsung dominant home. For others on the fence in the same situation see Rtings summary below.

Rtings Summary:
The LG C3 OLED and Samsung S89C OLED are similar TVs occupying the same market position. The Samsung is better for gaming and a slightly better overall TV, while the LG is better for movie fans. The Samsung has a wider color gamut and gets brighter than the LG, especially in HDR; not only that, but it also maintains its HDR brightness better in Game Mode. It also supports 4k @ 144Hz, while the LG is limited to 4k @ 120Hz. However, the LG supports DTS audio formats and Dolby Vision, making it great for Blu-ray fans. It also has better low-quality content smoothing than the Samsung TV, making it better for watching streaming content, especially in low-bitrate situations.
Yeah, like I said in my other post they really are very very close in a lot of ways. I will say that as someone who likes lots of freedom to tinker with my settings, the LG OS blows the Samsung one out of the water. There's so much more you can do with it to dial in the picture. I've used nothing but LG OLEDs for like 7 years and switching to the Samsung. I immediately felt very restricted.

Still you can get great picture from it and definitely dial it in pretty well without needing to go full on calibration so that's nice. I just feel like flexibility to have multiple setups on multiple inputs with different modes for different times of day and such. There's a lot missing there for Samsung That LG has nailed down.

Reality is that once I get things set up the way I like them I pretty much just leave them as is. So again in the early days. It definitely feels bad to not have all that freedom, but a few months from now I won't even really care.

Lack of Dolby vision is probably the biggest thing that I will definitely feel regularly as a lot of the content I watch is in Dolby vision and due to issues I can't explain here. I will have a harder time with some content because of this.

I have a 65" G2, a 48" C3, 65" C9, 55" B6 and now the 77" S90

Either way I'm getting to experience a great display wherever I go in my home.

I think it was worth it to downgrade from the 83-in to save roughly $500 and get that qd OLED punch. But I don't know if I can justify all the work of doing another swap to switch from the s90 77" to the c3 77" to save like 80 bucks and get Dolby vision.

Trying to ship back one giant TV in my life I think is enough for me... at least for now! 😂

I'll just say I've got the C3 42" for gaming since there's no S90C 42". With all those wins for Samsung on Rtings.com and my own side by side eye test I'm glad I got the 77" S90C in my living room instead of the C3. Hope everyone gets exactly what they like best Smilie
Yea I bought a 42" C3 and a 48" C3 just to figure out which size would be best for my desk and compared to the s90 77" I will say in a lot of ways they are very similar.

C3 has a much better settings menu that allows for a lot more tweaking which I really enjoy having access to. But generally once I set up and are happy, I never touch again.

The biggest difference I see is in the colors and how much they "pop" especially the more you turn up the brightness on the C3 the more washed out the colors get whereas with the Samsung they just stay perfect all the way up to 100% brightness.

I didn't think this would be something I really cared about until I saw them side by side and man it really is a big difference.

I won't lie and say I don't miss Dolby Vision as a lot of the content I watch does come in it, but comparing Dolby Vision running on my C3 and my G2 and HDR content of the same type running on the s90 I honestly think the s90 still looks better again, especially when the colors are at high brightness.

I don't think you could go wrong with either one. Honestly if you use something like a Shield or Roku all the stuff as far as the OS basically means nothing for either one and picture quality unless side by side... Most people are just going to say wow that looks great to both.

But I won't lie. I've set up three people to come look at them side by side and put on something with some really punchy color or high brightness effects and they immediately go... "Oh my God this one this one! This is the better one!" in regards to the Samsung.

I guess it all comes down to what your preferencees are. I used to be someone who chased after 100% accuracy.

Bought the equipment to even calibrate my stuff, but eventually I just realized that I'm not necessarily that fluxed about it. Haven't calibrated any of my last three displays and just kind of eyeball it till I'm happy.

Looking at my picture everyday and just being satisfied is way more important to me than 100% perfect accuracy.

I think either one of them can do that for the majority of people, but people draw lines in the sand based on whatever they buy as someone who buys both and will likely "switch sides" again once I can get an 83-in MLA for a decent price, I really can say I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I literally did the same thing. Bought the C3 and will compare. Maybe keep the S89c as an office/gaming display. If not, confirmed 15 day return to Best Buy with no restocking fees, no box required, just all manuals, cords and remotes. I held onto the box and packaging anyway for better transport.
Does Best Buy do pickups for returns or are you responsible for getting it back to them? I mean if they delivered it to you would they also pick it up??

Would a consumer who is a novice/general user who isn't super concerned with what's under the hood notice a difference between the C3 and S89? I watch sports, TV shows, some streaming, and have an Xbox Series X. Is the one connect box really that bad?

I can with almost certainty say majority of people unless side-by-side directly compared would not be able to tell you the difference. I've got a C3 and a S90/S89 in my house and showing them to people on their own. Jay both get the same kind of reaction which is wow, that's really great looking picture.

It's only when I put them side by side. Do people suddenly notice boosted brightness and color intensity of the s89.

If you're not fluxed about operating systems and in-depth settings nor really care about something like Dolby Vision versus HDR and what the differences there are, I think you could be safe going with either display, but if you want the brighter more color impactful picture, the S89 is definitely the way to go.

Really it just comes down to cost. I would go back and forth with either one of these TVs depending upon which one was cheaper. If they're roughly the same cost, it's a toss up.

There's also no one connect box with the Samsung you were referring to. That's only on the s95 so you won't have to worry about it at all. You'll get full van with 4K 144 HZ gaming and if that is something you really care about. I think the gaming experience is significantly better on the Samsung so much more impactful image quality.

I also struggled with the S89 vs C3 decision. The lack of Dolby Vision and anecdotal talks about poor Samsung QC were the big concerns for me. I have two 55" G1s (slickdeal 1.5 years ago for $1k each) and a 48" C1 or C2 (SD around the same time for like $700?) and have been happy with them.

Decided to go with the C3 since this will be in my basement so don't feel like I NEED the extra brightness and I don't want to miss out on Dolby Vision or be as concerned with having a QC issue and dealing with Samsung customer service which is awful.

I guess to summarize I felt like the C3 is a safe option that I am certain will be amazing while the S89 is less safe while only being a tiny bit more amazing.

What did delivery look like for?
I looked at the tracking and it's already arrived to my town, but delivery isn't scheduled until Tuesday. Wondering if maybe I can get it before then.

My C3 won't be delivered until Saturday but reading your comments about how brighter and how colors pop more on the S89C makes me think twice about the C3. It will be placed in a bright room with a decent amount of windows so that's another factor I'm considering although the C3 is about $75 cheaper than the lowest price of the S89C ever was...
