They just don't make things like . . . well everything's been made like crap for a while ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ what are ya gonna do?
Now, merging listings incorrectly, changing vendor, changing price etc. without letting you know? Yeah, that's sort of their thing, like leaving packages in puddles.
I rarely get fooled anymore but my poor mom keeps trusting them.

Would recommend you looking into the Endurance version. Those are designed for exactly that use case and will last much longer.

Well 6 months outside is probably more brutal than most of these will ever see. Good to know though.

Probably should have used the EXTREME variant...
It's CT - we saw snow once and it's sealed. Didn't break 25 below and they're rated below that.
I'd be more interested in a 'teardown' where the exact type of failure was noted. Reformatting a lot of times will never run into a problem again.
As with 30 years ago, "memory testers" are a fantastic idea, greatly useful and prohibitively expensive. Only way to break out of that is for them to become widely used and even the most critical usage best cost is just swap it and don't reuse.
I'm surprised that these all but killed CF; cheaper and smaller is king though.
I checked before and they'd merged lines at the time. From this page:
"6 way peace of mind. The EVO Select takes on life's adventures with water¹, temperature², X-ray³, magnet⁴, drop ⁵, and wearout⁶ protection*. Your experiences are irreplaceable and deserves reliable storage, backed by a 10-year limited warranty."
The rub is that NO warranty covers data recoverable -- which makes the word "irreplaceable" here misleading.
Nothing beats proper backup procedures. Automatic wireless backup (not to be confused with synchronization), snapshots at correct intervals etc.
This isn't an application I actively rely on - it would be another story if I had to.
