Both the aluminum and fiberglass pole options are the same price? Unless there's something seriously deficient about the type of aluminum Moosejaw uses, by all means opt for the aluminum over the fiberglass.

It's not reflected in the official specs, but aluminum poles are lighter than fiberglass. They also don't splinter. Fiberglass has an unfortunate tendency to crack and splinter, especially if the ends are not fully seated in the ferrule of the adjoining pole section. I've used both and will never go back to fiberglass poles.

Tent manufacturers push the # of people per tent for marketing. So per specs it would work for your fam. Many people say double the tent size for the people. So I would recommend at least a 6 person preferably a 8 person even with young kids. Everyone will have a clothes bag of sorts and other things, the tent will fill up quickly and you may find that you should have gone for a bigger tent. There is a 8 person version on Walmart but it's over 3x the price of this deal.
I replaced my 4p tent for another 4p tent last spring. Its just for me and sig. and a dog. Dif design and it feels at least 30% bigger than the other 4p. So it can also vary by manuf. On how big the tent is. I was considering the 6p version at the time.
Completely agree. Here's why...

This tent is 8' by 8'. If you put your gear in a two foot pile at your feet you get two feet wide per person. Otherwise you get one person in two feet wide and everyone's... Feet

Honestly, this is three person max.

Thinking about picking this up for my families first tent. My wife and I and our 2 kids (7 and 3). Wondering if this is the best option for the price or if I should look at something else?
Tent deals come up alll the time on SD t though usually they are fall winter it does happen all times... I'd wait for a bigger one... I'd guess you guys are going to do the car camping thing so weight is nto so much an issue so go for size of tent... JM2CW

This is a great family tent for $100. It punches well above its original retail price. Just get the aluminum option if you can.

Nope. They never made one. But for $100, it will hold up.

It's actually a bit larger than most 4 person tents. It fits our family of three plus a dog just fine with all of our stuff.

Odd, I've always gone with fiberglass poles, never had one splinter, but I'd be more concerned about the aluminum ones bending!!
