What are these MSRP prices? Am I losing my mind this AM?

I have quite a few pieces of MH gear, I don't recall the retail price being this insanely marked up (not that I'd ever pay full price)?

Did I catch the Alzheimer's this morning?

Almost $1k for a MH coat? Hmmm.

Boundary ridge jacket is my daily driver for skiing and I absolutely love that thing. Was in howling 60 mph winds in 10 degree temp over the weekend and didn't feel a thing and come spring time has plenty of vents to keep me cool. Plus its super durable. I have over 100 days of skiing with lots of time spent in the trees and it looks brand new

This should be the new mantra of everyone.

"Did I catch the Alzheimer's this morning?"
So much is increasing in price exponentially.
And sadly the cause is 1% as they want yearly profits to double even if not in negative . A very unrealistic goal.

No Alzheimer's, you just dont know what you are looking at. The $1000 parkas are for doing Mt. Everest. Eddie Bauer and other brands also make expedition level gear. They were around this price prior to this past inflationary surge.

If you've got the $50K to spend hiring a team of sherpas to carry oxygen tanks up the mountain, it probably is worth a $1000 to not freeze to death and become a new landmark on the mountain.

Isn't mountain hardware a subsidiary of Columbia? I love Columbia stuff but the prices do seem really high?

Is anyone doing Everest activities buying Columbia gear? I feel like there would be more specialized brands/lines for extreme activities

It's spelled "Hardwear" as word play for clothing. Columbia is sort of the low tier of Mountain Hardwear that utilizes proprietary fabrics instead of the licensed fabrics of the top tier brands. Columbia to my knowledge doesn't make expedition level gear, so people arent wearing it for primary outerwear. Yes, people do, do Everest in Eddie Bauer and Mountain Hardwear as I previously stated. Specifically, the $1000 Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero is designed for expeditions like Everest. For the record, Columbia is great if you have reasonable expectations. It's just not the Mountain Hardwear level you are conflating it with.

You think Columbia prices are really high? I don't know what to say other than that's what things cost. You can maybe find some cheaper stuff like Baleaf on Amazon, but it's very hit or miss, and you aren't going to be getting the consistency of licensed fabrics like Polartec, or even the decent proprietary tech of Columbia, on the no name stuff. Is there cheaper stuff that you could actually do Everest in? Probably, but if you are a surgeon making $500,000 per year, and paying $100K to do Everest, are you going to conduct your own research and risk your life on a no name Amazon item, or are you going to pay a small percent more to an outfitter that's been doing it for decades with a proven record that is recommended by expert opinion? It's a no brainer, and saying a 3lbs down expedition level parka at $1000 is expensive is just a opinion based on really nothing. You can objectively cross-shop a similar item and easily find out, that's what that game costs.

Goretex seam-sealed jackets routinely sell for $300-600. It's been this way for many years. I'm surprised that anyone that has worn outdoor gear for years doesn't understand how it works. The product is released at a high MSRP and sold at discount to influencers to make reviews. Rich and impulsive people buy it at MSRP. Then they do a sale of ~30% off after sells fall off a little. Then they do around ~50% after the season ends. Then they sell it to the clearance shops where you can't get it for ~70% off but in limited sizes and usually less desired colors. The exact discounts vary by brand.

Not sure about its quality but gore-Tex 3l pant for $137 sounds like a great deal. Checked their return policy and it's 60 days, so I'll give it a try.
MEN'S ROUTEFINDER™ HD GORE-TEX PRO JACKET got all sold out FYI.

Have the standard routefinder jacket (non- HD) for skiing and it's been great. The 80D felt much more substantial than the 40D dawnlight.

Almost bought the routefinder bib the other day for 170 after cb. This is much slicker at ~142 (14.5% at C1 shopping- targeted, up from 8.5%)

I see the review in its website, looks like the the bottom is too narrow for ski boots
