Here come 800 comments (from the same 3 people) confusing this with a Steam Deck, an emulator, or a K-cup brewer....then giving the bad advice to spend 'a little more money' to do something entirely different.
Hint: It isn't trying to be any of those things nor is that even close to revenant advice

Correct me if I'm wrong but at +$100 for an lcd steam deck whatever this was trying to do it gets beat, is there something I'm missing? And I say this as someone who keeps waffling on getting something like this but my main use case will be for travel and this thing seems strictly home use.
Love my gcloud for streaming and emulation up to PS2 generation. Have a steam deck too and these are both different use purposes for me. I got mine open box also and was in excellent condition back in November. At 212 it's decent but I'd hold out for it to go to $180 on eBay recertified myself. Unless you prefer to shop locally or don't want to wait

Not even close to the game use case. Unless you are buying a Steam Deck for (only) cloud gaming but then you are going to have a horrible time anyway.
Steam Deck: Shines for locally installed games (and even remote play to Steam running on another *local* PC)
Logitech G Cloud: for cloud gaming. For example Xbox Cloud Gaming and NVIDIA GeForce NOW.

This would probably suck if you did not have a very strong internet connection as there would be no reliable connection to the "cloud."
I really want to get this, but Linus Tech demonstrated terrible diagonals on the D-pad, and no native PS5 remote play. It can pretend to be a phone, but the button graphics are forced to overlay on the screen because Playstation wants to sell their Portal exclusively, and this does everything it does better... if the controls worked for it.
So because I want both Steam and PS5 streaming, I'm looking at the Backbone One PS version... except that it doesn't fit an ipad mini without a PITA mod, which is the best suitable screen and also like $500. I probably spent 4 hours last night looking for a good 7" or 8" OLED 1080p Android screen... and there isn't one. This thing has the BEST screen available at any reasonable price point. It's only the PS Play lack of support that kills the deal.
A few youtube reviews concluded this is a decent buy for $200 or less. With the lukewarm reception, I think it'll hit that sub $200 price point pretty soon.

That's not entirely true. While the Steam Deck and other x86 handhelds are much larger and in a different category, the android based gaming tablets are essentially the same thing as this and can play XCloud etc just fine, in addition to better local emulation.
As someone mentioned below, the $180 or so for refurbished seems reasonable. But at $250.... there's a lot more competition in that $2-300 mark and this becomes a much harder buy.

So a different category? Which was entirely my point.

Again, who is talking about emulation? Or K-cups makers for that matter...

What competition? Make sure it has a similar screen, is an all in one unit (not some janky add on controller which you strap to your phone), and of course is a purpose built cloud gaming device? I'm sure you are going to say a used OG Steam Deck yet that $100 more, screen is terrible in comparison, nor does it cloud game very well (all 3rd party apps and workarounds). "Different categories."
Not saying the Steam Deck is bad, my go to device WAS the OG SD and now it is the OLED SD. Again "different categories" therefore do not belong in the same conversation. Now, back to k-cup makers

But as I understand it I can do xbox cloud gaming and geforce now on the steam deck and it works well, so what does this do better? Or is this just a way to do solely the cloud gaming part but at a $100 savings? It's weird I'm ready to pull the trigger on something even though I'm not sure I can actually justify it for the 6-10 flights I take a year but I keep getting drawn to these threads (handheld gaming devices.)

I think it does a fine job making coffee but to each their own.

My experience with the Steam Deck and cloud gaming / steaming is a hot mess (not talking about Steam remote play, that is the jam). Your can make it work but it is far from streamlined. If cloud gaming is the only reason you want to buy a handheld it makes zero sense to pay MORE for the Steam Deck which will do it much worse. But if you want a device that cloud games okay-ish and does a bunch of other stuff extremely well then the upcharge for the SD is an easy choice.

In my opinion this is the best choice if you want to truly cloud game with subscription based services. Not talking about any other use case.

For flights I would run far far far away from this or any other streaming gaming device. You want locally installed games. The lag, connection drops, etc will make anything cloud based unplayable.

I'm not sure why you're stuck on it being a purpose built cloud gaming device. Something like the Odin / Odin 2 / RG556 are a lot more versatile and can run all of the cloud gaming apps in addition to emulation.
This is just a very limited use product and is hard to justify at $250. Just like the PS Portal thing. They're not necessarily bad devices.... just expensive for what they offer.
Again, at a <$200 price point it's a much better proposition.

Holding out for the Nespresso version!
