- This a cloud gaming handheld, do not down vote this post if you think the device is useless to you.

- I think this is a better buy than the PS Portal because it comes with android OS, so you are not limited to ps remote play.

- Yes, you can do this with a phone and a controller. I still think a dedicated handheld has it's perks compare to a phone.

I got the G Cloud for $220 shipped but I would advise looking into newer PC handhelds since this is cloud based only, but its probably one of the better emulator large screen devices.

Aren't you better off getting one of those retro handhelds for $160 or so?

Depends on your screen preference. This is a big device but has one of the best screens available. Marketed for streaming games, it's a pretty good emulation device (arguably as good as anything other than the Steamdeck).

Here's another option:

Buy an older phone from ebay. it can be one of the larger ones with 6.5"+ display. will likely have a lot higher resolution than 1080p. (for example, samsung galaxy a42)
Buy a kishi/backbone/gamesir.

Should be around the same price as getting a g cloud at this price.

Pros: you get a more versatile device. higher resolution display. probably a more capable cpu for emulation.
Cons: Smaller screen.

Unless you really need that .5" of extra screen, g cloud (at least at this price) doesn't seem like a good option to me.
I will say I have dabbled in Cloud gaming via older phones and even with decent add on controllers like the Razer Kishi the setup can be a little janky when compared to a dedicated device (both in a physical sense and considering software user interface). Now you are also talking about $50 controller + a potentially free phone vs $250 purpose built device. Really depends on how much cloud gaming you want to do if the extra cost is worth it to you. An old phone is very servable but if you plan on spending hundreds of hours playing $250 ain't bad and you can always recoup a bit of your money later when upgrading to a newer handheld by selling your old one.

I'm seriously considering a G-cloud, but this price is still too high for me. I'll wait a bit longer and hope for more of a deal, but if the price on the G-cloud doesn't fall, I'll probably go with an Ayn Odin-Lite instead. At this price, I would have already pulled the trigger on pre-ordering an Odin2 for the better hardware, but I don't want to wait until next year.

I bought a cloud second hand for $200 and I'm really impressed with the quality. I have a pretty decent pc hardwired to my network and it streams great. I like the screen and the ergonomics of the device. The only thing I don't really care for is the vibration motors are too buzzy for my taste. Imo after owning it I would have still been happy to buy it at 250 given the build quality

The Logitech G Cloud has a few things going for it you won't always find in cheap handhelds: excellent build quality, nice screen, stellar battery life and good CPU and graphics performance. Plus since it's an established company (as opposed to a scrappy Chinese startup) you're going to at least get a limited warranty that covers any defects and good customer support.

You might save a little bit of money getting something like the Ayn Odin Lite which has similar specs but really, not that much at this deal price.

Meh, poor local performance leads to Cloud Gaming only. Unless you have a specific use, one would be way better off with an Android handheld for less, a Switch, or a Steam Deck.

Didn't even realize it was capable of playing local games

I'm not saying getting a separate phone + controller is cheaper. You could of course, use your existing phone, in which case it would be cheaper. But nothing's keeping you from buyin an extra older phone as a dedicated gaming device.

If you spend the same $250 or so, you can get an old phone to use as a dedicated gaming device, with a higher resolution screen and a better processor, and it also happens to be a backup phone.

The more powerful CPU is important if you're trying to emulate 6th gen consoles. The Snapdragon 720 on the G Cloud is not quite powerful enough for every PS2 / GC games, at least without some compromises. With a more powerful CPU, you can run them without issues, and at higher resolutions.

If your main use case is just cloud gaming, $250 is not a bad deal for the G Cloud.
But, you could get a dedicated cloud gaming device / backup phone that's more powerful, higher resolution, easier to carry around, but slightly smaller screen.

Edit: I meant GC games, not Wii games. It probably wont run most Wii games full speed.

$250 for an Android 11 tablet. This is not a good deal.
