The best air purifier deal is back at Costco.

I have these Winix units all over my house.

Better performing than everything you can find on Amazon and it comes with 2 years of filtration and easy to control on a Wi-Fi app.

AHAM rated for 360 sq ft, but will cover up to nearly 1,800 square feet with one air change per hour.

My favorite feature is the sensors and auto mode. It gives you the ability to set it up and forget about it. The fan speeds will change automatically, the air quality sensor will change colors and let you know it's working and the change filter indicator will let you know when it's time to change the true HEPA filter (I usually set a timer/reminder for my carbon filter change as I do with my furnace filter).

These units have helped my air during wildfires, Covid periods and will be purchasing more as it's cheaper than buying some other units filters.

Anyone else have theirs develop a whine/hum? I had to move it to dog room
Winix includes an extra filter, so you're already at the same price, assuming $80 for Shark + $20 for extra filter.

Shark states 1000sqft of air change per hour, Winix is 1800sqft
Shark is refurb with 90day warranty, Winix is new with (I want to say) 2year warranty, plus Costco satisfaction coverage.

Can't comment on reliability of Shark, but I've got 3 Winix in the house. One of them being maybe 6-7 years old at this point. We use it almost daily.

On the Winix, I did have to open it up and tighten the fan when it started rattling at about 5 year mark. But I think even if someone had to replace it at that point, it would be totally worth it the price paid.
I bought 2 of these units for myself, and my father bought 1 last year. No complaints, have it setup on a schedule and on auto it is nearly silent even when it's only 4ft away from my head. It will ramp-up/down automatically if AQ decreases, and comes with 2-years of filters. Plus, Costco warranty.

If you're looking for one, highly recommended.

Bought 5 of these and 2 are already broken due to the fans going bad. Wouldn't buy again.

No more Winix for me.

Same here. Fans were busted.

I have 4 of these, the longest one I have had for 1 year. I haven't had any noise problems. With our cats and dogs, the pre-filter gets pretty icky, but it is easy to clean the pre-filter every 2 weeks.

My utility has a $40 Energy Star rebate for Air Purifiers. https://rebates.energysavepa.com/...ier-rebate
FYI - power usage is low=5.6w, med-7.9w, high=12.5w, turbo=56.6w

Winix sells a refurb on their site for $70, but it doesn't come with a spare HEPA filter, just some extra charcoal filters. https://www.winixamerica.com/prod...-purifier/

Hah. My Airmega 200m has the opposite problem. I DO want the ionizer feature On all the time but it defaults to Off whenever it's turned off or unplugged. And I often forget to turn it back on. I work in medical research and our lab has an ionizer on 24/7 so one of my requirements was that home purifier has one too. And of course, that's it's certified as ozone-safe.

We have six, two refurbs from Woot, three from Costco, and one as a replacement for one of hte Costco ones from Winix. As others have said, they are likely to develop a whine; two of ours have done so. But both of these were newly purchased, not the refurbs from Woot.

We also have a Levoit, two Medify MA-25s, and two Airmegas 1512.

1) When they are on sale at Costco, and there is a $50 credit from the energy company, it's hard to beat this, especially with the additional filter. It's cheaper than just buying two filters, and we have one in storage for the eventful breakdown.
2) I like the scheduling feature. We struggled to hook a couple of them up to WiFi but I think that was a signal strength issue. One of ours sometiems struggles to connect, but we've never had the problems others have had.
3) I do NOT like the default PlasmaWave feature that turns on whenever the unit is turned off and on. I never use it, but sometimes if one of our kids accidentally turns it off and back on, the feature will be on for a while.
4) I think the air quality feature is not especially helpful, so leaving it on auto doesn't quite do the job.
5) For heavy duty cleaning, like when I accidentally burned chili powder (it made everyone cough), I think the Airmega is better.
6) However, on a day to day basis, the Winix running at high *not turbo* speed clears almost as much air as the Airmega at full power and is much quieter. That's how we use them most of the time. I've read in several places that you are better off with multiple purifiers at lower speeds than one very large purifier.

I was hoping the filters would go on sale, becasue I'm sick of buying new units and not sure I'm eligible for any more rebates, but this is a good deal.
If you connect them to wifi and use the app, you can set up a schedule. You could just schedule multiple jobs a day to change the mode to your preferred speed with plasmawave off.

You can hear it on the lowest setting. I think people's definition of silent is vastly different

I did. Four years or so
Donating my loud one. Upgraded to a larger Medify filter. Was happy with the Winix though.

Get a 20" box fan and put a HEPA filter and tap all 4 sides. It is now a air filter and a fan too!

Google the video. It works!

My filter has turn from white to brown. Time to change my filter. It works!

This is an energy star certified and qualifies for rebates from Local energy companies if they are offering.
Dominion energy in VA offers a $50 rebate. Check in your local electricity provider's rebates portal.

I've been a big Winix fan in the past. I own 3 535s, 2 909's and a NK100 and I owned 2 other models no longer made. My biggest issue with Winix is they keep discontinuing models and then trying to get the filter becomes a pain or super expensive.

The 545 in this post uses a model S filter replacement. Not a single other Winix purifier users this model. I know some folks say you can cut the filter A but still that is annoying.

One reason I recently bought the 909 is it because it uses Filter A which is Winix most common filter. They make 10 different models that use this filter and plenty of 3rd party companies make ones that fit.

Just something to think about if you decide to get this model.

For $20 less, how does it compare to this? (same 2-year total cost, assume a filter lasts a year and a shark replacement filter costs $20)

This seems to be better with the sqft

They are always available around this time. Goes on sale multiple times a year.

Like others, debating on buying more or not to replace a few that have left the bedroom due to the noisy fan. Eventually they all go noisy after a few year. Took 2 apart to check, it's the motor itself so there's no fix.

So probably skip these and research something else. These are good but again only last so long before you have to replace them.

If anyone move to something else similar without going bad due to noise, do let me know.
