Other emulators have nothing to worry about, the reason Nintendo went after Yuzu was 2 things.

1. First, andmost importantly, it's their current console. Of course they'd care much more about something that make piracy easy, costs them money and makes their hardware look like the joke it is.

2. Yuzu used decryption to operate, using the decryption keys & posting walkthroughs and links on their site along with the emulator was a mistake. Most emulators reverse engineer the hardware and use unencrypted roms.
3. They had a Patreon getting $30k+ a month.

The second you start making money off an emulator you risk this happening.

In support of Yuzu since they might be next. Respect.

They can do whatever the heck they want, there won't be any new 3ds games, the works for a 3ds emulator at this stage of the system is mainly maintenance and porting to other new platforms, there will be plenty of people will and can do those works

Which is actually an example of Sony suing an emulator.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleem
nintendo suing emulators: many many many times
sony suing emulators: 1 time

also I believe the reason Sony sued was because at a Apple event apple showed off the emulator working on Mac hardware, leading Sony to sue

Not really bleemcast made money selling PS1 emulator for the Dreamcast. Sony sued them and lost. Legal precedent has already been set, YUZU devs just figured it was cheaper to make the settlement than hire a lawyer not to mention the stress it has on you.

Oh man. I got my dreamcast and I hear it's a treat to mod.

I think you overlooked the biggest reason Nintendo went after Yuzu, which is that Yuzu made money from the emulator via Patreon.
Nintendo has been notorious for shutting down fan projects of their intellectual properties. Games that would never have charged a dime and would have been freely released.

I think Yuzu making money was of secondary concern to them. The bigger issue is... why would you buy a Nintendo Switch when you could just get an emulator instead? The existence of Yuzu discourages some people from buying Switches.

At some point, Nintendo will release a 4K port of BOTW and TOTK on Switch 2. Why would a person buy a remaster on Switch 2 when they could just use Yuzu to run the Switch versions of BOTW and TOTK at 4K?

Casual people are not going to use emulators. People that enjoy the portability of the Switch are not going to use Yuzu. But there is probably a fairly significant pool of hardcore PC gamers that will flat out use Yuzu instead of ever buying a Switch (and they'll also pirate a bunch of games to boot).

I am a huge advocate of emulators. But emulating modern and current consoles leads to enormous amounts of piracy. Downloading a ROM of Super Mario World is a lot different than downloading a dump of TOTK a day after it's released.

I'm glad I was able to get a 2 tb ssd in my steam deck and get everything situated before they started removing things. May be a chain reaction coming with all emulators ending up shutting down eventually.

It seems that the most important reason for the takedown, was the money they were making on Patreon. But even worse, they were selling access to TOTK before the official game even released.

The court documents do mention the Patreon, but it was hardly the main reason for the lawsuit. It was mainly about piracy and bypassing the Switch's encryption along with Yuzu telling people how to do both.

I remember I graduated college in 2008. I got myself a Nintendo DS and emulator stuff to pass time while I went job hunting. Now, it's 2024. It's 16 years later!? Not 5 years later, but freaking 16 years!? @_@

I'm done with Nintendo. I've been a die hard nintendo customer for 40 years and this attack of emulation is the worst. It's time we boycott Nintendo for their anti-consumer behavior.

I will never buy another nintendo game again until they stop this lawsuit bull***.
Don't let the door hit your behind on the way out. You cover your bottom line if you are a business. Do you work for free?
