TBH, the 29 forks (and shocks and droppers etc) were on sale too for a couple of months.
Most of what is left are the 27.5s because the popularity of that wheel size is down, that part is true.
Also the framing of the industry failing and crashing and whatnot that we keep reading/watching YT channels pushing etc, is IMHO, in bad faith: these companies enjoyed an unprecedented growth in sales and revenue during and the first years after COVID. Sales being "halved" soon-after they were doubled is an expected/predictable correction and not a catastrophe.
Regular people are supposed to be mature and save for a rainy day instead of spending all they got, but companies are "obviously" exempt to do the same with rainfall profits.
Real reason on this one is 27.5" Everyone rides 29ers
If you buy one of their half priced dropper posts, expect it to need to be sent it in for new seals and a nitrogen charge. I bought 2, both are weak, sent one it for for rebuild, came back strong but sticky and not smoothly operating...I have 5 droppers and my fox are the worst functioning (two of which are brand new).

any recommendation on a decent dropper upgrade? I have a KS Rage-i Dropper that came with my bike and it's bad (sticky, slow to move). Been thinking Crankbrothers but 🤷 ♂️ not sure there's a reasonable sub $1k upgrade path.

I just bought one a couple months ago from Colorado Cyclist and put it in my new bike. I haven't had a chance to ride it yet (weather) but it was sticky/weak/slow when testing. I just thought it needed to break in once I started riding it or my expectations were too high, or that the Amazon special in my hardtail was an outlier in quality to be so much "better." I was super excited to get it, as my first piece of Fox gear, and now I'm nervous it's just a dud. Thanks, lol..
What was the send-in process? Did you have to pay or was it warranty? How long was it gone? It sounds like it may not even be worth it if yours came back sticky anyway?
I guess I should've gotten the OneUp but I got sucked in by the Fox name/marketing/look lol.

PNW makes outstanding dropper posts and levers. Plus they come with a lifetime warranty and good customer service.
Same experience with the Fox Transfer Dropper. Will not go up all the way unless starting from fully retracted state. Always stuck at around 1" from full extension. Tried new cable with no luck. Had to send to Fox for warranty review (Had to pay for shipping). Should have stayed with Bike Yoke.
Just bought a marzocchi bomber z1 for under $300 last week.
Can't even get rid of my new take-off recon for $100 on marketplace.
They need to offer more 1-1/8" steerer options… and 26" wheel options. This is for people like me who have a lot of older high quality mtb parts and are building bikes for their kids. The main drivers of overpriced mtb parts (those who are close to retirement or just retired) have moved on to motorsports.
I've spent a lot of money on mtb parts, I know this stuff isn't cheap but I also know there is no reason for a quality fork to cost close to a grand or more. There really is not that much too them even factoring in the aluminum forging. Tolerances don't even have to be precise because bushings and rubbers seals make up for it (Rockshox is proof of that). Fox doesn't even have an excuse anymore ever since they moved production from California to China.

I hear ya, I HATE the idea of a bicycle becoming "obsolete". I think your last option for a quality 1 1/8 QR air fork is the Manitou markhor.
I was considering a trek e-bike for commuting, but the fx+ 2 has a sealed, non user serviceable battery........
The idea of a bike becoming e-waste is disgusting.

Only so many folks can afford to put thousands towards a toy and only a small subset of those choose to do so
