I got the same error and figured out how to get around it. Don't use the links above. Login to Metro with your phone line and PIN. Then, go to Phones & devices >> Tablets & devices. I was then able to select the Samsung tablet and added a line and paid $20. Hope this helps you out.

Called Metro, and they told me they can't ship out a SIM card. Rep said she's very sorry, but asked that I go to a Metro store, buy a $10 SIM card, and then call them back, and they'll credit me $10 towards my next month's bill, which I have no intentions of renewing. I said I'd rather return the tablet, which surprisingly, the rep didn't really try to talk me out of. She did question why I wasn't open to visiting a physical Metro store, and I explained being a Tmo subscriber, I've gotten much better quality of service than being told to run out and grab a SIM card out of pocket before calling them back for an adjustment of credit.

In the past, I've been able to activate on Tmo using left over Tmo network MVNO SIM cards(from Mint, Ultra Mobile) I've gotten for free. I think I might still have a few that haven't expired. What are the chances I can use one of those to activate on Metro?

If I choose to just keep it as a Wi-Fi tablet, I'm guessing it'll never auto unlock after 180 days?
You can avoid activating the tablet if you're going to use it on WiFi only.

The main purpose of activating a SIM card is to unlock it after 180 days and put another SIM to use with another mobile service provider.

If you look at your order number, it is tied to a particular SIM card. I doubt you can activate using an old SIM card, as it must be associated with a different number and only be available for 911 calls. But I am not super sure about it (the best way to find out is to chat with them or call and see if they can activate an older SIM on this tablet).

Yeah, I really want the ability to use a different SIM in it down the road.
So even if I go pick up another Metro SIM for $10 outta pocket, do I have to call them and update the SIM card number to activate? It's not so much about the $10, I'm just kinda pissed that Metro is willing to jerk their customers around for a simple fault of their own. Would it be possible to do a device transfer, and move the SIM from my Moto G Stylus to the Galaxy tablet to activate?

I booted mine the second time with the Metro Sim in it. It installed some Metro bloat and now a Metro boot spalsh screen but also an unlock button.
I used the Metro sim and got the Metro Spash. I see the unlock app under apps in sttings but cant open it. Cant find it in the app drawer. Do I need to insert a foreign sim?

I am able to open the unlock button but I get an error code. Maybe there is hope these can be unlocked after 180 days after all.

When you login to your Metro account, did you see your Tablet and new assign phone number to Metro SIM?

Did you get cellular access when put Metro SIM to other devices?
I do see the tablet and the new line for $20/month.
My new statement for both phone line and the tablet are only $51 and change, I guess it's prorated for the tablet plan. I am not planning to renew though.
I don't want to put the sim into a different device because I am just afraid that might mess up the unlocking process in 6 months.

It is under "Connections" --> "More connection settings" --> You will "Network unlock" and "Permanent unlock"

Click on Permanent unlock after 180 days of activation....it should unlock it for any mobile service provider sim.

I just got the Nord N30 5G delivered today from this other deal posted on SD. About an hour after activation I checked this tablet deal and was able to order the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. Nice 👍 https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/930090

I got and activated my tablet today with only 2 days left on phone plan. If I don't renew my phone plan which I didnt intend to, then my tablet's service also terminates? They each show up as a standalone line when I login to my Metro account but it seems they have prorated me for the tablet as my next months bill is $2 more than normal and the $20 went towards next months bill with $42 remaining. This is different than what the customer service rep told me when I place my order with him over the phone. He told me it was ok to close my phone service and still use my tablet service, which I was going to do for a month but I am unsure now. Anyone else also seeing this?

I thought all the people saying this thing is slow were all exaggerating... Well, I just got this thing and MY GOD it's ridiculously slow. Like, slower than some free Boost phones I got 7 years ago slow. Even just doing the initial setup takes AGES. Like, just confirming the privacy agreements, etc, take an eternity after you've clicked on submit. I actually thought it had frozen because the Metro splash screen when you turn it on took a solid 5+ min... Thankfully I only wasted $20 on this thing. I'da been pissed if I paid full price

Samsung A7 Lite: steps to make it more responsive and fast-feeling.

[1] Turn off RAM plus under Device Care->Memory.
[2] ENABLE "Reduce transparency and blue" under Accessibility--> Vision enhancement
[3] ENABLE Developer Mode: disable all the animation

[4] Activate table on metro SIM and download Android 14 (UI 6.0)

First two steps, thanks to the other poster.

Even AFTER doing all this - the tablet feels like a phone from 6 years ago.
Isn't spending $20 more and getting a phone (Moto, Nord etc) a MUCH better idea.
What do people even do with this tablet especially at this speed?

So if you pop in a TMobile sim while activating this, it will still activate and start the 180 day "timer"?

Does it have to be an unused sim or can you take one out of your phone?

Turning off RAM plus makes it faster? That seems counterintuitive but I'll give it a shot, thanks for the tips!
