You can bypass that by tapping four corners from top left, top right, bottom right, bottom left, do it for two more time in the same order, so total 12 tap, then press volume down, after that you will able to connect to wifi and set up without SIM.

Just FYI, if you want this tablet unlock after 180 days and you don't intent to keep your metro phone number , it's better to activate your tablet with metro sim as soon as possible. Otherwise this could happen:
1. It's time to pay your next metro phone bill, metro will charge you $40, it will charge from the $20 which you have paid for the tablet first, but of course that's not enough, so you still have a $20 due on your account.
2. After this point, you can't activate your tablet since you don't have $20 to pay the first month tablet charge any more...
3. Then your stable could be locked to metro forever since it never get activated on metro.

Turn OFF RAM plus under Device Care-> Memory
ENABLE "Reduce transparency and blue" under Accessibility--> Vision enhancement
This sped up my tablet a lot.
EDIT: A7 lite
As per Samsung: Remove animations: Tap this to negate screen effects from apps if your eyes are sensitive to animations. It can also help speed up your device a little.

In the past, I've been able to activate on Tmo using left over Tmo network MVNO SIM cards(from Mint, Ultra Mobile) I've gotten for free. I think I might still have a few that haven't expired. What are the chances I can use one of those to activate on Metro?
If I choose to just keep it as a Wi-Fi tablet, I'm guessing it'll never auto unlock after 180 days?
The main purpose of activating a SIM card is to unlock it after 180 days and put another SIM to use with another mobile service provider.
If you look at your order number, it is tied to a particular SIM card. I doubt you can activate using an old SIM card, as it must be associated with a different number and only be available for 911 calls. But I am not super sure about it (the best way to find out is to chat with them or call and see if they can activate an older SIM on this tablet).

So even if I go pick up another Metro SIM for $10 outta pocket, do I have to call them and update the SIM card number to activate? It's not so much about the $10, I'm just kinda pissed that Metro is willing to jerk their customers around for a simple fault of their own. Would it be possible to do a device transfer, and move the SIM from my Moto G Stylus to the Galaxy tablet to activate?

Did you get cellular access when put Metro SIM to other devices?
My new statement for both phone line and the tablet are only $51 and change, I guess it's prorated for the tablet plan. I am not planning to renew though.
I don't want to put the sim into a different device because I am just afraid that might mess up the unlocking process in 6 months.

Click on Permanent unlock after 180 days of activation....it should unlock it for any mobile service provider sim.

Isn't spending $20 more and getting a phone (Moto, Nord etc) a MUCH better idea.
What do people even do with this tablet especially at this speed?

Does it have to be an unused sim or can you take one out of your phone?
