Refurbished Sony Xm5 earbuds $140, Comes with 2 yr allstate warranty
Seller:secondipity. I got xm4 from them couple of years ago and earbuds came looking new. After the firmware updated destroyed the battery I was able to get full price back with all state warranty claim.

They are pretty good with sending you another pair.
The sound stage of FreeByrd is wider( not as wide as Pi7) and deeper, the separation is more obvious, better clarity for bass. Xm5 has little more details in treble.
That's all about sound stage. Xm5 has better ANC ( NA to me because I use AirPod pro for meetings, FreeByrd and Pi7 for music). Both fit ok to me ( JLab epic lab edition fit my ear best so far). BYW, I bought the XM5 open New from Woot!
What concerned me was the seller's address:

a quick google search shows an absolutely terrible google review and literally all complaints about this liquidity services scamming people selling broken crap. Seems like they sell auctioned off boxes of electronics/parts and it was mostly just broken junk. I decided to give it a try given some of the good reviews here and the good ebay feedback. Maybe it's a different group running ebay profile or something.
Well, i received, tested, seems to be working. However i received 4 pairs of earbud foam tips. 2 of the pairs are the same size so i'm not sure if i have two large or two extra large tips leaving me unable to do the full fit test. Then the medium or small medium size, depending on whatever i'm missing, pair is clearly used with a minor amount of ear gunk on it. I connected my phone and the device came up "christopher's WF-1000XM5" so i presume this is remnants of christopher himself. I thought they were supposed to at least replace all the tips? clearly a poor job at that with my duplicate and my used pair. So in reality i have two sizes, a very small pair and a large pair. so now i'm thinking i gotta go spend another 20-30 on amazon for some quality tips to make sure i'm getting the most out of this.
The large size sounds pretty good. The sound is very good, but i thought i was going to be blown away considering these are 300 dollar earbuds. They are Noticeably better than my samsung galaxy buds 2 that fell in the toilet, but not way better like i was expecting. The bass is more natural sounding for sure and it sounds a bit more alive, like you're not listening to a recording like you might get from the buds2. Battery life: i've been listening to music for 1.5 hours and it's down to 96% so that seems pretty solid. Noise canceling is only a tiny bit better than buds2.
Anyways, i went with the big ones and set up the app. App is pretty intense with the features, i like the equalizer controls. Functionally device seems fine, just a little underwhelmed given the 300 dollar regular price. I would not want these for full price but for 150 they are decent. I just hope you don't get any of christopher on your set.
Ordered Friday and received Monday plain box with the charging case, headset, cable, and tips all in a ziplock bag. Looks like the spare tips and cable are new replacements during the refurb process because I couldn't find any evidence they had been used.
Based on photos from Amazon, it appears the medium earbuds (green) are installed by default, and the remaining earbuds are contained in the box:
- SS - Red
- S - Orange
- L - Light Blue
However, as many of their eBay review responses show: they don't bother to check these at all. They state they receive these units from "their vendor" (Sony) and just slap a shipping label on them and send them right back out. So they failed to notice that the prior user, Kris, was using the small tips so now I have two sets of those. Pretty sure the medium tips I didn't receive would have been the best fit -- but also would have been used so I guess that point is moot.Bought them to replace my WF-1000XM3s which are still kicking after a battery replacement, but thought it was time to upgrade.
Edit: To save you guys a step, to reset the headphones to factory:

Is the sound quality on these worth foregoing the Apple integration, fit, and Spatial Audio you get with Beats Fit Pros? Can't decide between the two
Answering my own question after having tested both: the answer is yes. These (and even the Linkbuds S) sound SO much better than Beats Fit Pros. So much deeper, richer, and more detailed that the Beats are simply not worth it to me. Sony has Bluetooth multipoint to mitigate some of the loss of Apple connectivity, and the Linkbuds are so comfy that I don't miss the wingtip of the Beats. But the Beats sound so hollow and lifeless compared to either of the Sonys I tried.
My left earbud is draining in like 5 minutes, its unusable. Will be sending them in with via their USPS pre-paid label.
I always opt for silver just because I think it looks better. I also just realized it probably ensures that Allstate is less likely to be able to repair or swap you out, since Silver is less common and will show pry marks if they actually do try repairing it.
Bluetooth connection behavior is probably the most important thing, if the XM5 doesn't meet or exceed the XM4, I will send them back or allstate them.
