Bottom line is that XM5 may only be a slight upgrade with regard to ANC, however this may not even be noticeable. Both are great options. I don't think you would regret purchasing the XM4's and saving ~$50.

My personal review: The Sony XM head band would sometimes hurt the top of my head. Not the most comfortable headphones out there. Sounded good though. The ear muffs would also leave permanent marks where my glasses were. I returned these and got a Sennheiser that's way better for comfort and glass wearers but no noise cancellation at all it's open back. I'd probably try Bose if i need noise cancellation since comfort is high value to me.

I have both this XM4 and Apple Airpod Pro 2

Pros
+ XM4 much better noise isolation and canceling on airplane flights vs Apple Pro 2
+ XM4 longer battery life around 30 hours with bluetooth and more with wired connection
+ XM4 outstanding audio fidelity and quality
+ Most customers prefer XM4 over XM5

Cons
- I prefer the Pro 2 for walking, running, and gym workoouts
- XM4 can build up heat and sweat during exercise
- the touch controls can be tricky to use on the XM4, physical buttons are much better
- Apple did a great job for the Pro 2 touch controls vs. Sony engineers have room to improve in this area
- I do not use XM4 for phone calls often, some complaints in the above comments
- Everyday I make phone calls with Pro 2--excellent for phone calls--highly recommended

Thanks ..my 4 yr old sony finally died so this was a timley deal! I think $169 is an excellent deal considering my old pair cost me $300 back in the day.

Best headphones I've over owned except one issue that Sony just refuses to address. I think not everyone finds this irritating as I do, but the freaking noise it makes when a connection drops is the ONLY reason I stopped using this device. Just awful, and I know several redditors complained about it as well (there are dozens of us!). There is nothing you can do to control that damn beep. Makes me sad because it was my favorite ANC headphones.

Hey fukdatsonn, What device are you connected to that drops the bluetooth connection? I have not any connection issues with my XM4s and my iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Thanks for your comment, very helpful. Since you have them all, can you please share which ones are best for phone calls? 99% of my use case is calls and my Apple AirPods are just not cutting it as the other party can't hear me. Thank you!

I received my silver xm4's today. They did not come in the product box, but they did come in the carrying case. They also came with a headphone cord and a very, very short usb-c cable. Overall condition looks really good tbh. I cleaned them but they didn't look dirty or anything. It was mainly for peace of mind.

They are charging now. I will update later with how they sound.

Unfortunately mic isn't something i use often (or at all). i do travel quite often and that's why i have many pairs.

Refurbished (that's not Apple refurbished) equals used. If you are lucky, they may get a proper cleaning. If you are not, they get a wiping. Nobody does parts replacement for reburbished anymore unless it's a quick easy replacement like earbuds ear tips. Certainly not battery replacement or headbands or cups for sure.

Bose is a LOT more comfortable. Your head and ears heat up a lot in Sony and they are very uncomfortable for over 30 minutes of usage. Bose QC are much much better.
ANC quality is similar in both of them.

If you are that paranoid, you should just stick to new. Been on SD a long time, and never saw anyone say they got lice from refurb headphones.
