Was at Costco yesterday and saw this priced at $19.99. Took a pic of it and came to checkout and asked clerk to price check to make sure the price was not a mistake and was delighted at the price. Bought one. Will post pic of the price if I can. (can't see option in app right now)
(apologies. The pic of price is blurry but it tells you the model # and price and I wasn't hallucinating!)

New activations of Obi+google voice will be discontinued if they haven't already. But if you have it already working it should not be impacted.
That's interesting. Could mean existing setups have some end date in the future as well. Are there any alternatives to Obi out there just in case this sunsets?

Yeah that's another subscription. At $5 a month, I might as well get the cheapest prepaid mobile service and live with a cell phone at home.

Why do you say gv + obi is going away? Who's changing how stuff works or changing acceptable use rules?

Using Obi + google voice. I think it was a one time $25 for the box that plugs into my network and phone. I also then pay a few bucks a year for e911 service at https://punchalert.com/911plus/ so that if my young children pickup the phone and call 911 the dispatcher automatically gets the address. Great service and price for peace of mind

We have had a previous version of this for about 20 years. We keep it because my 87 year-old in-laws can't figure out cellphones. By switching our landline number to Google Voice, it costs us nothing to have it. You can set the Panasonic to simultaneously ring a cellphone, so even when we are not home, my in-laws can always get a hold of us.
I was looking in that cell phone connection feature. So if I understand correctly you connect your cellphone to these phone and you can answer and make calls with this device but using your cell phone to place the call?

They shut down obihai devices that work with Google voice. You can't make any new Google voice connections to obi Hai after Dec 2023
