Everyone is always focused on wattage, the efficiency of the driver is actually more important. I have a pair of ancient passive SVS tube subs each powered by a 250 watt Dayton dsp amp and they outperformed several 300-500 watt powered subs, even in the subsonic range at reference levels in my small/medium size half finished basement. Would love to see a full review of this with max dB numbers and -3dB frequency response spec. I'm gonna roll the dice and buy one of these and see if it's a significant upgrade to the 8" Mirage in my bedroom set up. Worst case I can give it to one of my "home theater in a box fanboy" friends as a huge upgrade lol.

Just looked it over again- the 12" is only 31 pounds, no way it's a serious driver or cabinet at that weight. I'm getting a white van speaker vibe lol.

I own this sub. It came as part of an $800 speaker bundle posted a few weeks ago. This stacks up similarly to my polk psw505's, and better than my bic v1220.

31lbs for a cheap sub is actually pretty heavy.... Even if it is 12... The popular SVS SB-1000 isnt even 30lbs.

Thinking of getting this for music only, to add some low end to the ceiling speakers in my living room. These are not used for critical listening or tv, just music.

Would this be good for that use?

I would be feeding them from the high power inputs as my amp has no sub out.
Should I run Amp-Sub-Speakers or just add another run from the amp to the sub and a separate run from the sub to the speakers?

Interesting. I guess it should be noted that my desk is made up of two sets of 100% metal drawers, the only wood being the MDF tabletop. That's why I was hesitant placing it at my feet. I figured the metal wouldn't play nice with a sub. Maybe I'm wrong - again, noob.
Furthermore, a subs output is nondirectional, meaning that when you close your eyes, you should not be able to tell where the sub is in the room. It's easy enough to move your set up around and see where the sub sounds best- putting it on the floor and in a corner is a great way to get more output from a sub, walls and floor will reinforce the sound energy coming out of it.

I didn't know that. I feel like I could guess where it is, but maybe I'm overestimating my ears. Thanks.

If the sub is improperly placed, you can very often hear and feel it's general direction. As the other person stated, "You should not be able to tell where the sub is." Also, it's not only about location, it's also direction. Most of my subs have always sounded better at an angle in a corner.

In case you're interested in better sound quality, maybe consider the Cardas method for speaker placement and room treatments.

It's possible to have the crossover frequency set too high, depends on the particular sub model, some don't have a " steep roll off" meaning that they still reproduce quite a bit of sound above the given crossover frequency. The higher the frequency, the more likely you can detect where the sub is. Try playing just the sub with no speakers and see what you hear when adjusting the crossover frequency. Really makes a difference when you can't locate the sub in the mix, makes the soundstage aka imaging much better. I take everything fellow audio nerds say with a healthy grain of salt. When it comes down to it, your ears will tell you what you like. It's just a lot of fun to tweak everything you can to get the most of your set up.

See manual:
High-level inputs (7)
For connection to the high-level (speaker) outputs of the receiver/amplifier, refer to Fig. 4.

I have a Polk PSW12 and a BIC F12. Is this an upgrade to either or a pass?

How would this compare to the Dayton 12"?
