It took 27" 4K IPS screens about ten years to go from the exciting-new-tech price of $1,000 to to $200 (only when on sale). The technology life cycle for screens is said to be around 10 years. For OLED screen to come down to $200, they need to be the prevailing mainstream technology. That will take 5-10 years. (I don't see IPS and VA screen going anywhere anytime soon. Do you?) Could it happen at the five year mark? Maybe. Probably not. I'm cheering for you though. I also want to buy 27" 4K OLED screen for $200.

FYI, I didn't downvote your comment. You did downvote mine in exchange. Smilie All good though. I won't take offence just because somebody disagrees with me. The sooner we can buy these screens for $200 the better.
as a person who daily drives this(3316 hours on time), its dark to some, but people have different tolerances to brightness.

If you're a person who uses brightness at values of 500 nits+, this monitor is NOT for you. Put it in perspective, the framework 16 laptop I have has a 550nit brightness monitor, and I think it's eye searing, but there are those who daily drive panels at 1000 nits. the panel works better in environments that are darker. If I have to give a rough range, if you use a monitor at roughly 200-250 nits brightness, this panels fine.

the advantage of LG's relativity speaking conservative brightness is that the panel (considered second gen WOLED, the panel has MLA tech as well to boost brightness somewhat vs gen 1) is that it's less prone to burn in. various tests, including the ongoing oled test happening at Rtings essentially have the panel doing fine so far last i recall, especially when compared to gen 1 qdoled panels in terms of longevity.

If I want a 4K panel for gaming but not an OLED (pricing), which would be the one to go for? RTings has the Acer Nitro as the best 4K monitor that isn't an OLED. I know IPS is not the best for HDR but I also don't want a VA panel just to get close to OLED contrast levels.

Using this with a 7900xtx, so I was shooting for 4K but maybe a 2K OLED would be just fine at 240hz?

You might want to loom into mini-LED displays, Samsungs G8 Odyssey are one of the best options out there that comes to mind. You can also check out ninjadisplay.com and they have a list of different mini-LED mintors that are available and upcoming. Might not be OLED quality but they get pretty close.

I can already buy OLED laptops for cheap now, so the monitors can't be that expensive to make. It's been fun talking to you and your other three accounts.

Wow, 20 downvotes...somebody has their farm running hot.
Hm, I only have one account. Anyway, let's hope you're right. I want to upgrade my screens to 43" 4K OLED HDR screens once the prices come down to affordable levels.

I see some folks recommend miniLED as an alternative but I see them listed as VA panels?

I was told VA was good for contrast but poor in other areas relative to IPS. And that OLED outshines them both in everything but brightness?

Am I misinformed? Should I still consider VA panels for moderate gaming at 4K and with a 7900xtx but a good bit of office/browser work as well?

People are scared of VA panels but all LCD TVs except low end are VA rather than IPS, since contrast is so important for TVs.

OLED has downsides so it's not cut and dry. You can get great monitors with VA, IPS or OLED.

Need some advice. I'm considering this monitor or the LG C3 42", all I need is 120hz and HDMI2.1.

Anyone who got this think the text is blurry some of the time? I played with the settings, and it's great in games, but can't find a good setting for normal work in windows.

What's your GPU? Or are you on console?

If you're on console, it depends on the games you play

That's unfortunately one of the biggest issues with this monitor. It sounds like the new model fixes that

Anyone pull the trigger on this one? I'm still debating…so many more options coming out and this one is still regarded as pretty dim compared to everything out now. Spec wise it's perfect for me…I just wonder about that brightness.

I've been using it now for about a week. I have zero issues with text clarity and the coating on the screen like some have mentioned (coating is slightly matte but not heavily so). My LCD next to it is perhaps slightly sharper text wise but not as bad as text on a QDOLED which I had used in the past. Brightness is ok - I'm in a fairly lit room during the day but I keep it between 80-90%. I think it's definitely bright enough for daily usage but it's not searing your eyes. The peak brightness stands out more in HDR games and such where its implemented well. The remote it comes with is very handy for changing brightness quickly btw. I'm pretty happy with it.
