""Several weeks ago, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee unanimously concluded that phenylephrine, an ingredient found in popular nasal decongestants sold under such brand names as Sudafed and Dayquil, works no better than a placebo in treating cold and allergy symptoms""

I think calling it the "worst thing to give to a child" might be a bit of an exaggeration - offhand I would think opioids, hard liquor, illicit drugs, rat poison, and all sorts of other things would certainly be far worse. Large doses of melatonin also seem to fall in this category, with parents overdosing their kids on that lately.

That being said, multiple things I've seen do say this medicine (and pretty much all other cold and flu medicines) shouldn't be given to kids under a threshold age (seems to vary from 6 to 12) without a doctor advising it. Who knows what the reality is though, they seem extremely overly conservative on many things related to kids, I assume due mainly to liability concerns of something goes wrong.

I don't think I'd give this to my kids right now without doctor being consulted.

is there any specific ones to read out? I see Red 40 and found this "Red dye 40, made from petroleum, is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in foods and drinks. But some studies have linked artificial food dyes like red dye 40 to hyperactivity, including ADHD. Some studies show a link between dyes and increased ADHD or hyperactivity in children."

I've given it to my child and it makes him feel better. Probably because of the Tylenol in it.

I saw red 40 in the inactive ingredient list and just googled "red 40" and this result popped up - https://health.clevelandclinic.org/red-dye-40

PS. We've given this to both our kids, not every time. We switch between Dimetapp, Mucinex, DayQuil and prescription cough solutions.

Thanks! I had the free shipping option with my Walmart+. Likely it will be delivered in person in a grocery bag direct from the store anyway. Smilie

Couple of other Walmart cash deals, although store pickup only (YMMV).
