These have worse practical performance than the first generation, which is sad because the hardware is much better. These are crippled because of various factors that shrink the available pool of pingbacks to a relatively small fraction of Samsung phones, and that fraction gets smaller if you consider all Android phones, or all phones in general.

Pingback phones are opt-in with the 2nd generation. When the phone is being setup, the owner has to check the box to include SmartThings Find, otherwise it won't participate in the tag ecosystem. And to even be eligible, a phone has to be one of the luxury-trim flagship models from within the past three generations (e.g. S21 Ultra, S23+, ZFold5). Base models (e.g. S23) and fan editions are not supported for either tracking or participating in pingback. You might see a lot of people walking near the tag, but if they use a S10, A54, ZFold1, S22 FE, Pixel, Nokia, OnePlus, iPhone, or didn't give explicit consent on setup then it does you no good.
This is from amazon marketplace seller

Ships and sold by amazon price is $99.99
That all sounds fine and good, but in ACTUAL application and usage, I've had these trackers for some time and I get pinged EVERYWHERE. They work great. Never had an issue of not being able to track them. And just look at the reviews online in places like Amazon. Their experiences are the same. These things are solid.

I've just ordered 4 more now. Thanks OP.

Good for those who have Samsung devices. I have a set of them and they do pretty well, much better than my Tile Pro's that I have

Anything beats tiles...beats me how they ever became popular.

My tag randomly beeps and have no idea why?! Thankfully all a few times a day but can't figure out why. Checked setting and smart thing a million times but nothing there..any idea?

Thank you so much! Had a $100 promo code from samsung for some random previous order issue I don't recall. It was expiring in May so threw that at the order and was able to order +2 smart tags 2's for a grand total of 6 smart tag 2's for $8.71 shipped. $1.45 each Cool

There's a cashback site in there that kicks in a few cents.

I will upgrade my tile trackers and hand them down to a family member. Since I already own the s24 ultra these are the trackers to get.

Where were you able to learn these specifics on the limitations for pingbacks? I tried researching yesterday when this first posted but haven't found that many concrete sources that are as technically detailed as your descriptions.

I ordered a single one out of caution. I have the original SmartTag and will try both side by side on an upcoming trip's check in bag and see how each performs

So my wife has a OnePlus android phone with Life360 using Mint Mobile service. All android settings are correct for the app but there are a lot of "dead spots" between home and her job on the interstate. This is with Life360 and Google Maps location. Any ideas why?

Kids have the same setup and their location is usually accurate.

Was thinking of getting an AirTag/Tile/tracker for her car as a work around.

My so-far experience with these is a battery will last approximately 4-6 weeks. I don't know if I've ever changed a Tile battery....
Also UWB doesn't really "do" much, which was the reason I bought these. I can never get the map function to work (on S24U, S23U)

This explains why the smarttag+ pings double the amount of times than the smarttag 2. I was wondering why this one wasn't as good. I think I'm still going to grab it, though, since the older gen is not readily available for purchase anymore

There are so many fake galaxy tags from amazon market place sellers

And the same item shipped and sold by amazon price is $99.99

It's normally pretty obvious when they are fake. They tend to not pair with your phone well or other oddities
