I agree about the mounting making a big difference but not about theurlhasbeenblocked consumer air drives. Modern consumer drives (air or helium) seem to be tuned for quieter seeks. Enterprise drives generally have faster, louder seeks. Take an Ultrastar and put it side by side with a shucked (helium) EasyStore and you will likely notice a significant difference in how loud seeks are.
Depends on the drive. Some older air drives are quite loud.

At least the noise from these drives is funny sounding and higher pitched will all that helium.
