For those of us who wanted goHardDrive's 5 year warranty on a 12TB HGST drive, the price has finally dropped to $80 matching what we saw from SPD.

Seriously, so tired of the same garbage being posted in every thread.
Just to get the rest of the nonsense out of the way :
1) Yes, it's a lot of data to potentially lose so don't be a moron and DO have a backup strategy if it's data you care about.
2) These drives potentially support PWDIS so make sure you do the 3.3v mod and tape or snip the pin if you have a drive that supports PWDIS but a PSU that doesn't. You can also use a Molex to SATA adapter, but use the crimped ones and not the molded ones since the molded ones can burn up.
3) Yes, they don't ACTUALLY refurbish the drive. Do you know how many places are equipped with a clean room to take apart drives and do actual refurbishing? I don't, but I do know that I don't want some random third party opening my HDD before they sell it to me. Slapping a sticker on it, doing a format or secure erase, and even blanking SMART is about all the refurbishing I require on an HDD. Or a PC for that matter.
4) Yes, these drives have a good number of hours on them. Yes, enterprise drive MTBF numbers are insanely high but don't necessarily guarantee a long life. Lots of hours doesn't necessarily mean a shorter lifespan either. If you can't handle that and would rather pay retail..... bye.
5) Yeo, these CAN be louder than normal drives. But honestly, the helium drives from WD have been no louder than most non-enterprise air drives I've dealt with in the past. Your enclosure, mounting strategy, closeness to the enclosure, and personal hearing ability are all variables we can't know. FWIW, I don't think these drives are "loud".
He doesn't need a hug. He just needs people to be able to post deals on these drives without someone coming in every single time and commenting that they wouldn't use a used hard drive, followed by pages of arguing on how reliable these are and how much life is left in them. And he's not alone. This gets old
The listing says that is has both a 3 year and 5 year warranty. I sent the seller a message asking for clarity. Ill post back what they say.

got 1 with 28k hours and 1 with 34k.

All SMART data okay

i ran short and extended tests on HDDScan and WD Dashboard were fine

Is this all okay or hours too high?
34K hours = 3.9 years. These drives were explicitly advertised as having approximately 5 years of use. If they test good and work, I don't see how you could legitimately complain.

I just received mine and was reading about the Power Disable Mode. It says that this feature is for server or NAS storage device.

So I'm putting this in an old Synology DS216Play 2Bay I got for free. Should I be able to put this in without the tape trick since it's going into a NAS?

I have a Synology DS918+ and did not need to tape or use adapter. Try throwing in the drive first and see if it will take it first.

I received mine but after connecting it, the computer (Win10) gives a green screen crash on boot. I've tried in each of the SATA ports, and same result. Even if the C drive and this new drive are the only two in the computer, it still crashes. If I plug in after boot, it's still not recognized. I can feel it spinning and can hear occasional clicks, but after 2 hours, still no recognition. Did I get a bad disk? Any tips?
I've also reached out to the seller and am awaiting a reply.
Connecting to the computer tower didn't work, even through the supplied cable, but I found an external USB drive bay and was able to initialize the drive and do a complete format (18 hours).
SMART shows 29,560 hours, 154 start/stop count, and over 4 trillion LBAs written & read.
Now that it's formatted, hopefully I can install in the tower and not fail the boot.

Just adding one more data point for my 1 disk, using HD Sentinel Pro:

Power on time: 785 days, 19 hours = 18859 hours
Total start/stop count: 79

That equates to 2.15 years on time, slightly less than some others reported here.

The disk was provided with MBR partition table format, so I had to convert to GPT in order to get a partition > 2TB.

Just finished an extended SMART scan which took 21.5 hours. No errors found.

I put this into an old Dell minitower which I use as a DVR/media server. Had to use the included SATA adapter for it to spin up; that was fairly expected. Temps, which will of course vary based on your unit, hit about 43oC max during the SMART testing. Noise is minimal, but the PC is in an open closet across the room so not audible during my media consumption.

I bought 5 drives and scanned with HDDscan without errors, however, after spent 12 hours to transfer data over, two drives failed and my PC won't recognize them anymore.

Was it a short test?

I always do the longest test with a full write/read verify to shake out bad drives.

Yea that's not a full test, can't write and read the entire surface in that amount of time. Even at the unlikely 275MB/s it would only be able to read the disk in 12 hours, not write it.

I use disk-filltest.
https://panthema.net/2013/disk-fi...20sequence.

and use crystaldiskinfo to check if the bad cluster number has gone up.

Pretty much this. You're buying a 5 years old USED hard drives that are more than half way through their typical life. So they are likely to fail within the 5 year warranty period.

You say this in every thread.

People buy used cars and if they know what they are buying it can be a decent value.

People have redundant arrays, and things like plex/jellyfin data aren't mission critical data.

Any idea how the 5 year warranty works. I purchased this off ebay. And I was sent a one-year SquareTrade warranty. I assume that's something different but I don't see details about how to claim the 5 year warranty.

Since you quoted me, did you address item #2 in my rant?
Make sure PWDIS isn't your problem. If the drive is detected, it shouldn't be, but easy enough to be sure of by taping the connector and/or using a molex adapter temporarily.

Edit - Nevermind, I see you're good.
