FYI, if anyone is wondering, the ads are skipped using ublock origin. I have been on the ad subscription for 2.99 per month for a while and no ads when I watch in my browser.

Not a deal like the old deals, but none of them are anymore. This is pretty decent with the Amex (varies per cardholder) or Chase (below) combined with it. I only purchase commercial free 4K, so this would work for me (using Chase $35) to be less than $9 a month.

Chase

For orginal, new high quality content Apple+. Feel like Apple+ is what HBO used to be years ago. They don't have the overal past content like Max has, but I could care less about stuff I have watched before and only care about high quality content with known actors. Apple+ is hard to beat right now.
Apple+ has maybe 3 decent shows. I usually watch what I want on Apple+ during these free trials within a couple weeks and don't miss it all when the free trial is over. Max still has much better content/shows if you ask me.

What does it say when you login to your account and view offers? Mine has not posted on transactions, i have not received an email yet but shows AMEX offers > Savings Tab shows $25 redeemed.

It still just shows in my unredeemed offers section. Haven't received an email either.

Jumped on this deal a few days ago after not having HBO since last year and wow there is SO much garbage content on it now. What the heck happened? HBO used to mean quality and now it's all B-list reality shows?

Signed up for the Ultimate by stacking the Chase and Sam's club with a $10 cash Back kicker as well. Already notified of the Sam's club amount. I'll watch for the Chase to go through.

If you were to choose right now, which is better for content Apple+ or HBO?
Apple has Freebie trials going all the time, so there's no sense in paying for Apple. After 2 months, you'll be out of stuff to watch anyway.

Apple+ has way more than that. Max has literally nothing for me to watch that is new. But - hey everyone is different.

That change came about when the HBO content was paired with the Discovery crap. Pretty sure that we can expect a ton more too. For whatever reason, that reality crap draws eyes and tends to be cheap to produce. A bunch of HBO projects got cancelled. I still subscribe but yeah, it isn't what it used to be. I hear Apple TV+ has a bit of original programming comparable to what one might expect from HBO. I haven't actually checked that out though as I have never owned any Apple products so haven't ventured into those wildlands.

You have to pay $140 to get 4k? This is all getting too absurd, I think it might be time to dust off my peg leg and fly the old Jolly Roger again.

You can have 50k hd. It still wouldn't change the fact that there is nothing to watch besides curb your enthusiasm 😉

There's a lot of content available.. good number of Criterion movies and some good original series too.

Now, if you don't like classic movies or have a sizeable home collection, I can see where this wouldn't be a benefit to you.

If you've kept up with all the original series over the last couple of decades and don't want to rewatch, then I can see where it wouldn't be of benefit to you.

For me, it's a good deal... but the above comments I made don't apply to me.

I do think it's absurd to charge more for better quality though. I'm only going middle tier because the ability to download and watch offline is a deal breaker for me.
