FYI, if anyone is wondering, the ads are skipped using ublock origin. I have been on the ad subscription for 2.99 per month for a while and no ads when I watch in my browser.

Not a deal like the old deals, but none of them are anymore. This is pretty decent with the Amex (varies per cardholder) or Chase (below) combined with it. I only purchase commercial free 4K, so this would work for me (using Chase $35) to be less than $9 a month.

Chase

Over a week and a half later, still no AmEx credit or email from them. The offer still shows as unused. Anyone else have the same situation?

That change came about when the HBO content was paired with the Discovery crap. Pretty sure that we can expect a ton more too. For whatever reason, that reality crap draws eyes and tends to be cheap to produce. A bunch of HBO projects got cancelled. I still subscribe but yeah, it isn't what it used to be. I hear Apple TV+ has a bit of original programming comparable to what one might expect from HBO. I haven't actually checked that out though as I have never owned any Apple products so haven't ventured into those wildlands.
I can vouch for that. The Apple TV+ content I've watched so far has been phenomenal. Severance, Silo, For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, Slow Horses, Bad Sisters, Foundation... they really are putting out some bangers. Severance was my favorite show of 2022 and worth buying a month of Apple TV+ alone.

I'm sold. My uncle is here on vacation so he logged in and was showing it to me. I think he mentioned every one of those except Bad Sisters and Severance. Between what I'm reading here and what I've heard, I'm sold. I had a 3 months free on my PS5 but that apparently expired so I'm gonna hunt around for another freebie. I'm definitely going to check it out regardless though. Thanks for the input 💯

Did you check out with an electronic wallet like PayPal or Google Pay/Apple Pay? Not even sure if that's possible with Max but that would certainly keep the Amex offers from getting triggered

I just used the card directly on the website, no Apple Pay or anything. Normally I get an email from AmEx instantly or within a day and the credit will appear shortly after. It's odd that I haven't received an email and the offer is still in my added to card section with no indication that it's been redeemed. About a week and a half now.

Yeah, I was debating getting this as is. Now it's a definite no.
Cash back went up slightly. 4K went from $10 to $12.50 and ad-free HD went from $7.50 to $10.

This is too long of a thread for me to read everything but FYI in case it hasn't been stated: you can't take advantage of this offer if you're billed outside of Max (e.g. through Apple). It requires you to have a fully expired subscription first in order to switch to Max billing. If you cancel today your account likely will not expire until after the sale is over. I talked to customer service at Max and they said the only way is to talk to Apple customer service and have them completely terminate your account first (which means aside from the PITA it is, you'd have to give up the remainder of your plan you've already paid for).

Someone earlier said you could try and change your account to upgrade and that would you cancel you off of your current plan and they would refund the difference and then sign up directly - unless I completely misunderstood the post?

Well the deal is getting close to expiration so I've decided to just eat the last two months on my $200 one year sub through Apple and sign up for a new account for $140. I'm still saving about $30 overall so it's not that shitty for me.

I have no idea why I subscribed through Apple in the first place and I'm really kicking myself now 😒

By signing up again, was there a way to keep all your viewing history etc form your Apple account or did you effectively have to start all over again?

Currently a yearly ad free subscriber was able to extend it a year at $111. Was considering upgrading to $4K but it seemed to only want to give me the promo for the current subscription expiration for $70 then $199 after that.

Definitely different strokes for different folks. I Watch plenty of Naked and Afraid, John Oliver, Movies and some other shows and of course House of Dragons.
