This is a nice pack with many cool features. I also ordered one for the gf in blue as I like mine and the blue is a beautiful color. I really like the non plus adventurer 2.0 pack and the separate laptop compartment is useful for traveling.
their personal item size is: 14 inches in height, 8 inches in width, and 18 inches in length
in my opinion this should still fit their tray by pressing it. no issues for carry on as its size is much bigger.
Yikes. I'm waiting at the Frontier gate now with the Plus. I reorganized a bit so I can stuff the top in. I'll let you all know how it goes.
Alright, happy to report that Frontier did not even give me a second look. I could've packed this bag with more, but for my use (4 days/3 nights trip), I passed their eyes test. The main dimension I was concerned about was the height, but since the back is a semi firm material, it can be bent somewhat to fit in the box as long as some room at the top is available. Things I packed:
4 pairs each of boxers, socks, a-shirts, and T-shirts
One pair of gym shorts
Laptop (MSI gs66) and power brick
Toiletries pouch (8"*3"*4"?)
16oz vacuum sealed bottle
Mini umbrella
Disposable slippers
If I had bent the top a bit, then I could shove it into the box. However, I didn't want to pack to the point where it was bulging and get called out. Also would have made it more difficult to shove into box. Since the pack is pretty close to the limit, if you don't stuff it, then you should be good. I didn't get stopped on both ends of my trip.

The last time I flew the agents wouldn't even let the passenger touch much less push the bag in the box. It had to fall into the slot on it's own.
Just based on the dimensions of the bag and Frontier's stated dimensions, the bag did not drop into the bin. The Adventure 2.0 Plus is almost 1" taller than the bin's long opening of 18". I did put the bag on top of the bin, and if you massage it a bit, the bag will fit. But this is dependent on how full your bag is, how compressible the items inside are, etc.

Consistently inconsistent. I saw some other passengers stuff their bags into the box and allowed as personal item. I may continue to fly with them.
