Even if this fridge doesn't have the poorly designed compressor
Why the heck would you ever consider giving this company your money if given a choice?
Do people have amnesia of how LG handled that debacle? And then icing on cake was all of their sneaky ways they slipped in forced arbitration on their customers?

For those in here mocking other posters concerned about this fridge... they have every right to be concerned and of no fault of their own. LG imploded the trust in the brand. Why the heck would you take LG's side and call people morons for asking questions?

I bought this a month ago. Here were my question points and some findings:

- LG Compressor issues. You can verify yourself on the spec sheet this no longer has the problematic "new" style compressor that LG had issues with. It's back to a more traditional style.
- Lack of ice in door. For us this hasn't been a big problem since water is already chilled. It's not worth the issues that the refrigerator/ice combo come with.
- This thing is cavernous. Both because there's no wasted space to an ice maker in the refrigerator, but also it being the largest you can buy, our cramped fridge became kind of empty looking when we swapped to this.
- Water in the door hinge area. I was worried about energy loss but after doing some math on the energy loss standing with the door open getting water it's, at maximum, a few dollars per year. The majority of the energy is stored in the temperature of the items inside and not the air itself.
- Costco Delivery. Was genuinely A+. No nicks, no issues except they were 15 min outside their delivery window.

Edit-
- A bonus I found out later is this actually does have WiFi capability. It lets you customize chimes, set and view temperature, enable Ice Plus, Economic Care and Smart Air (supposedly this analyzes your usage and does some pre-cooling type stuff to optimize energy savings), Sabbath Mode, Energy Saver, Light customization.

No it is not, idk why you are so obsessed with this. It uses part # BMH130NCMV, a standard reciprocating compressor. NOT the linear ones that caused all the recent problems. Older LG fridges with their reciprocating compressors before the switch to linear were as reliable as all the other GE's and Whirlpools.

No, but LG's record is especially heinous from the (2) aspects I listed in my post. And this is very recent. Before the compressor debacle, LG appliances for years has had a bad reputation for both reliability and serviceability.

Defects happen. So do bad designs. There is an acceptable way to handle both, then there is the LG way.
Even if this fridge had the "new" new compressor that fixes the previous issues, why would anyone in their right mind give their money to this company when given a choice? I sure as heck won't.

With regards to record, in my personal experience and in the experiences with my nearly three dozen tenants, this is where we generally find the best successes with appliances:
Washer/Dryer --> GE (our older generation Kenmore rebranded Whirlpools and older Whirlpools have been the absolutely best, but you would need to buy used of course). If you have the budget, then Speed Queen.
Fridge --> GE
Stove --> GE
Dishwasher --> Whirlpool/Maytag/KitchenAid

From our experiences, Whirlpool and related brands have the best serviceability and parts cost. GE parts tend to be more expensive, and not as widely available across all models. And I'm talking about both OEM and aftermarket non-OEM...seems there is way more aftermarket support for Whirlpool and related brands than GE, when dealing with trying to repair, say an older appliance. Whirlpool is bigger, so that is expected.
I bought an overpriced hood from Kitchenaid a year ago, and after many warranty calls it still isn't working. First the light, now everything (fan, light, timer) isn't working and I have to wait several more months for the new parts. Literally the simplest appliance in the kitchen, with technology that has existed for over a hundred years, and they can't get it working! Don't get me started on the LG washer and dryer.

I hate modern appliances and modern appliance companies.

We have noticed a significant post-covid uptick in board issues with Amana/Whirlpool/Maytag/KitchenAid appliances. We've had stove and washer boards go out with no apparent logical reason. We've even examined the boards themselves, no visible signs of shorting or burnouts. They just start behaving completely erratically.

Dishwashers seem to be OK, and their dishwashers tend to be the most reliable for the price and cheap to fix, so we are sticking with those. But for everything else we have been using GE. Before Covid our washers and dryers and stoves were strictly Amana/Whirlpool. No more. Ben's Appliances and Junk youtube channel has also touched on the topic of their boards going out prematurely and being completely and utterly cost prohibitive to replace

Interesting to hear. I wonder what is the root cause there.
I do really like the dishwasher (with the third top rack), and no issues yet, but it's only been a year. My frustration is I'm from the generation where we had nice, older appliances in older homes that simply worked and lasted 20 years or more. The technology exists to make good products that last and I've seen it. Unfortunately no longer. Even now the expensive products don't do the task correctly, like drying the clothes. They charge me more money for a worse experience only for it to fall apart in a few years.

If you want old-school reliability, you'll need to buy commercial-grade stuff now
Speed Queen is that. Maytag still has a commercial-grade line of washers
For range hoods, going commercial grade may be the way to go as well, vs what's sold in local stores. Fewer bells and whistles, likely none in fact. But they will last, and parts are serviceable.

Cost is difficult to swallow, but you get what you pay for. A small Speed Queen washer you can expect to drop a thousand on. Might be able to get for a little less on sale.

LG has a tendency to make products that last at best 2-3 years all across the stack of products they make
So all the youtube channels recommending LG monitors are shills?

Do any of the manufacturers have a spotless track record?
Interestingly enough if you ever check the failure rates from warranty companies, LG and Samsung are the lowest around 2%. This is why so many bigger stores love selling them because they effectively pocket 100% of the extended warranty money.

Amen. LG reputation is trashed, so why give them the benefit of the doubt now?

I just got this as my GE just gave up the ghost tonight. Extra fridge is a plus, I have a lot of LG products and they seem fine. This is replacing my 3rd GE fridge. What is the Costco warranty again on appliances? Anyone chime in?

Many people swear by Bosch.
For a "premium" line, I prefer KitchenAid more due to serviceability and widely available inexpensive parts

With regards to racks, stick with dishwashers with nylon coated racks.
My 3k 4year old KitchenAid refrigerator is a giant piece of shit. Plenty of service bulletins to fix problems that should never have been on this expensive turd.

If you re-read my post, we were talking about dishwashers.
The previous post that the other poster quoted, had me recommending GE for fridges

Even if it doesn't have the compressor famous for failing it's still a LG, and that's reason enough not to buy it.

No it's 3 years max hate that company's trick consumers that way. But if you purchase with credit card most all credit cards extend warranty an extra year
5 total years of protection

Mechanical and electrical failures plus product defects are covered by the manufacturer's warranty and/or Costco Technical and Warranty Services for the first two years. If there is an issue that is not covered by the manufacturer or Costco Technical and Warranty Services during the warranty period but is included in your Allstate plan, Allstate will cover it.
