They're clearing stock of the 8, and I guarantee the 8 won't be down to this price when the 8a is out (not at retail anyway).
Then the news of the Pixel 9 will increase.
That's how the Google sales cycle go. It's the same every year now.
Signal keeps switching back and forth between 5g and lte at an area normally have 5g.
When your on a call and you have to look at the phone, it does not want to go back to the call easily, so if your on a call where you have to enter prompts, this makes it very difficult.
When you take a picture, it just doesnt process sometimes and there is a moment where your like did it work oh man everyone hold on my phone didnt work..
If you have certain updates pending, nobody can call you, had this happen twice where all day I didnt get any calls till I had to google issues to find this out, as its not displayed anywhere in front of you to catch it.
Stuff like that, im sure theres more but you get the idea, I am hoping someone at google sees this and does better quality control in the next update.
I was a big advocate of google phones prior to the 8

The battery lasts exactly a day with moderate use. Everything else is absolutely fine for the price I paid, which was around 1/3rd of the iPhone 15 Pro I was considering as well.
If you're comparing this with even the regular iPhone 15 at 829$, you get:
- 120Hz refresh rate
- Always on display
- A file manager that actually works
- USB type-C v3.2
- Easier repair-ability with parts from iFixit, and no parts pairing
- Can block ads via in-browser addons and don't have to use Safari
- Excellent photo camera, OK video camera.
- Long-term software support just like iPhone
- Other nifty Android-related conveniences that would make this post too long.
The pixels only advantage is the camera and speed of updates at the cost of far worse hardware.

The Tensor SOC is far less efficient compared to snapdragon/apple chips which leads to worse battery life and heat issues when using the phone heavily.
I have had almost every iteration of the Galaxy S phones, from the S4 to S22 and switched to Pixel 7 last year (only because of a good/convenient trade-in deal).
Pixel 7's camera was OK. Slightly worse than the Galaxy's. I upgraded to the Pixel 8 Pro when it came out this time specifically due to the camera upgrades. It is noticeably better than both the P7 and S22. It has simply been consistently great. I believe the P8's main sensor is the same as what's on the P8P (but the ultrawide is different and the P8 lacks the zoom camera). So for everyday photography, you will have very few if any complaints.
Note that the Pixel line does have some mojo in their camera software though, so it would be close.

Call drops or reception. s22/23 would have full bar wherever pixel would be 3/4th or half.
If you use adblock+Firefox or anything that's CPU intensive, you would see secs delay in page loading over Qualcomm SOC.
Worst of all, in Texas summer it would consistently go into dark mode or suggest to turn off the phone if you use Google maps or Android Auto for more that 20 mins. If you mount it on phone mount to the windshield, this is even worse. SOC is just poor tbh.
If you use bitwarden, it would take secs to unlock (the unlock requires CPU cycles) as well searching through the vault.
Lack of Qualcomm audio codecs, if you're into high fidelity streaming and lack of development of headphones that supports pixel high fidelity audio.
I'm not into benchmark numbers, but this just shows the SOC is bad for a user who just needs a decent phone.
