They are air tight. I use them as a dry box and keep a humidistat in the box. They stay nice and dry even in humid environments

I have the larger version and it's a foam gasket that doesn't go all the way around. Think of a strip that starts at one point and ends all the way around but isn't completed connected. Definitely wouldn't consider this air tight.

I would say no. They aren't food grade and have a poly odor. ETA I purchased two in January.
