I appreciate these Creed threads. Not only will we get a reference to "Higher", but I learn which are the better clones and what are the best places to buy online. I honestly think that scents are much more important to men than women, at least for me anyway. My wife rarely comments on my colognes or after shaves but oh man, do I love it when she wears Bitter Peach or the Mugler scent she picked out for me to buy her for Christmas. I like smelling nice but as long as I don't smell like BO, she's fine with me. 😂
With arms wide open! No wait.. that's the Creed deodorant.
That is because I am married, not because of how I smell.

You name a lot of very niche fragrance houses who are not safe blind buys. Bond no 9 for instance is notorious for creating fragrances that don't last long and/or the fragrance is very niche/experimental in concept. Once you start buying fragrances in this "tier" you should really find ways to sample before buying. Or you'll end up spending $200 on a fragrance you don't like. Creed isn't THAT popular. The price tag keeps the poors away. It's not like every one and their grandma wearing acqua di gio. The perfect scent for a clone army to wear.
Creed isnt a safe blind by. Lots of their scents are not at all enjoyable for me. I agree you should find a way to smell them before. I've blind bought 2 fragrances. Naxos and Rogue 540. (Interestingly enough, they included a sample of Grand Soir that I loved and bought) Both are great, not what I would have chosen, but very mass appealing.
Creed is mainstream. I smell it nearly as much as I smell sauvage and acqua di gio. My Dillards sold it, quit stocking it due to supply and demand issues and it was taking so much market share from their other brands.
Brought an knockoff of Aventus and it gave me an horrible rash. Obviously I can't tell before hand if it will, So what's the solution? Just pony up the cash for the real stuff?
I wanted to get some perfumes I remembered were big in the 90s. My dad wore Cool Water and Polo Green. I've heard they've tweaked CW over the years and it isn't the same as it once was, but Tres Nuit is close to the OG. It's a damn good clone and lasts all day. Still need to pickup Polo Green, tho I've heard that's not the same anymore either.
Polo Green is not the same today as it was in the 80s and 90s. I have a bottle I bought in 1988 and it's very very strong and has the signature Polo scent I remember. I think Polo was introduced in 1969 or so, it was one of his first scents. Lauren was before that and came out in like 1965. I'm going by memory however and may be off.
If you want to go back to really old scents try No 6 by Caswell and Massey, George Washington wore it as President. And even older is 4711. I have both and while light and not long lasting, they are lime based and very refreshing. No one ever compliments me on them but I sure like the way they smell.
Where do you find women to sleep with you based upon the cologne you are wearing?
I think that learning to cook is a much better way to end up in bed with woman. If you can cook an nice meal and make some interesting conversation I think it will be much more enticing. Wearing some cologne just adds to the situation, but won't define it.
I have worn GIT, but I like Rasasi Egra for a near peer. The opening is like GIT with a little bit of the pine in Aspen (but not synthetic like Aspen).
The drydown is really really close to GIT.
Another clone is from (going by memory) Al Haramain, something like Al Haramain Knight.
You need to decide what you want in a clone, the opening or the drydown. No clone will give you both. With something like Azzaro PH I need that opening. With GIT, I really want the dry down, hence the choice of Egra.
I'm not sure about CDN. I have a decant of GIT and imo you have to grow to like the scent. It's a fresh cut grass type of scent. I haven't found a single occasion where the scent would be nice 😂
would never blind buy creed.
aventus is the only creed I like so far.
I got my first sample bottle from a creed saleswoman in nordstrom, and her sample smelled very good. the bottle I bought online was almost the same like 95%ish but not as great. still liked it.
nor blind buy any "niche" fragrance shop
i hate a lot of fragrance, especially the expensive ones
mont explorer and CDN smells similar to aventus, but def not the same. Most (good) clones get around 80-85% same.

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. Cooking isn't gonna get you laid. That's not gonna get you in bed with a girl.. that's gonna get her attached to you and wanna eat your food.
Most single men wear fragrances to use as an ice breaker to converse with women. More times than not.. in a situation where she, and possibly yourself are drinking at a bar, or club. Which in that type of situation, if you're smooth enough.. is a lot more likely to get you laid, than cooking for her
And so..just to clarify.. as somebody who owns over 500 bottles of fragrances, and has tried every single Creed, and owns much of which this topic has discussed.
Fragrance opinions of smell are completely subjective.. what smells like GIT to you, won't smell like GIT to the next guy. But yes.. most people would say that the closest thing to GIT is CW. They definitely have similarities, and there is some truth to GIT and CW being made similar to one another on purpose. Idk the whole story, I am pretty sure GIT came out in 85, and CW in 88. Neither of them smell dated, as they have evolved with time, mostly reformulations and batch variations.
There's a lot of other brands that have noticed the success of these 2, and tried to clone them, many of which have been mentioned on this topic.. but if you have your chance to buy the original, and have the money to do so.. then that's your best bet.. cause imho nothing is better in this genre than GIT. CW used to get cloned too when it was a more expensive fragrance.. but now since it's so mass produced, its found everywhere on the cheap. there's no reason not to own both if you just love fragrances. If you're just trying to get laid though, thinking a fragrance is gonna be the answer to your problems.. you're sadly mistaken.. but it can certainly help.

I feel most Creed's are safe blind buys. The majority of their fragrances are made to be mass appealing, and are actually frowned upon, among fragrance snobs for being too generic and boring. I personally like a lot of them because I can feel and smell the difference in the quality of ingredients.
there's no quality in Creed colognes anymore. they smell above average, but performance (longevity + sillage) is horrible. i'm talking 3-4 hours. hardly worth the $500 retail Nordstroms asks for. not even worth the $199 sales price.
there are plenty of "inspired by" Creed clones out there that are great (and even better than the original) in performance. ignore all the snobs and naysayers.
I've bought Green Irish Tweed and like it, but ready for something new.
Is Aventua usually the next one to go with?
Go-to Neiman Marcus, a creed boutique, bergdorf Goodman, or somewhere else they sell em and pick a favorite. I swear they can vary quite a bit batch by batch and year to year; so knowing what you're buying is pretty key.
I'm partial to Millésime Impérial as we inch towards warmer spring and summer weather; but it's a romance scent imo; great if you're going on dates and often get close to each other. It's unisex, I'm a man, and man is it intoxicatingly fantastic.
Some folks prefer Aventus.. some will prefer MI to it in summer. Only you or your significant other can decide, go smell!
