  • About the product:
    • Anbernic RG35XX H, a gaming handheld that was showcased in late 2023, was released less than two months after the RG35XX Plus, which served as its foundation. Contrary to its predecessors, the RG35XX H adopts a horizontal layout, while the previous RG35XX series only offered a vertical gaming handheld option. In essence, the RG35XX H combines a 3.5-inch IPS display with an Allwinner H700 chipset. Additionally, this gaming handheld is equipped with 1 GB of LPDDR4 RAM, dual microSD card slots, and a 3,300 mAh battery that has been tested to last approximately 8 hours when running PS1 game emulations. Furthermore, Anbernic has included Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and HDMI connectivity to facilitate multiplayer gaming, wireless controller support, and external monitor output. In a nutshell, the Anbernic RG35XX H is the horizontal version of the very popular RG35XX Plus, a handheld that sits high in the best retro handhelds list.

Depends on what you want out of a device like this. The RG35xx H is definitely going to be comfortable, solid build quality, solid screen. It will play everything through PlayStation 1 fine. A lot of folks get a device like this, spend a few hours tinkering with roms and getting it set up to be 'perfect' and then it goes in the junk drawer. There's a lot of ewaste here.

So at this price point it's a nice little device and will be fun to mess with. It has WiFi and Bluetooth audio.

Retroid makes a pocket device that is much more powerful and can play up to PS2. If you're looking for more of a modern -ish set of software supported that's a good spot to look - it's a nice price and solid value.

I see these devices pop up from time to time, never bought one…but always wanted one. Everyone always says "get the horizontal one", is this that one?

This is probably the best small horizontal handheld for games up to ps1. There are obviously bigger and more powerful ones but at his price and size, this is the one to get.

That's the conclusion I reached as well after researching it. Price + what it'll do for me is exactly what I wanted, thank you!

Going to wait for a deal on the RG35XX Plus as well, so I can get that vertical screen itch scratched.

Enjoy it. There's custom firmware slowly emerging for it so you will have options to mess with, although it seems like a lot of folks are sticking with the stock rom this time around.

Great price on a very capable and pocketable handheld definitely the one to get for you or older teens.

Here's another good YouTuber TechDweeb, his review and the new Koriki firmware that opens up the 35xxH to a few additional consoles:

If you are looking for something for younger kids get the Data Frog SF2000
They can play it out of the box, goes up to SNES and GBA and can be had for under $20 and sometimes as low as $12.
That way they play them, and they break them or loose interest, you're not out a ton of $$
The SF2000 sucks I have it and wouldn't recommend to anyone, even at that price point.

This is so me. Have a bunch of these and generally get em all setup and then they go in a drawer. But here's the key: give them away... They make incredible gifts for kids, who can experience some of these games for the first time. I have a cultivated ROM set that puts all the highlights on there and then talk to them about what they like and make recommendations. They have really been fantastic and make some wonderful memories.

If you want the ultimate emulation and all-around device, the ODIN 2 is the device to get. Incredible capabilities, comfort, battery at a great price for what it is (though much more expensive than this). All the other handhelds I compulsively buy get tweaked up, played for a bit, and tucked away since they all pale in comparison...

And upvote for Russ at RetroGameCorps - he's awesome.

I disagree, I have 3 and find their simplicity refreshing and ease of use great for the kids without having to invest a lot of dollars.

Pretty good for about the price of a Pizza.

Sure it's not perfect, but TadPole software and Multicore really help. Clean up the crap china/non-english roms for the kids and they are set.

edit: also good for sending to deployed troops. My brother has found his a great filler for those big boredom moments of hurry up and wait military deployment life.

Nice! I don't use TikTok but for only $6 more on Ali, that's a deal.

Agreed. MinUI is a really solid firmware for kids. Customizable but they can't break anything. I have an RGB30 sitting here collecting dust bc of the jank and wish a better custom is was on there Smilie

terrible website and customer service. Tried checking out multiple times on multiple devices and browsers. Absolutely will NOT let me checkout with Paypal (stating security issue). Super frustrating. Aliexpress is a JOKE
Same issue with credit card. Happens a lot on aliexpress their customer service makes me think Amazon Indian call centers are decent (Amazon has turned Comcast tier this is not praise).

So strange considering I've ordered from AliExpress so many times and I've never had any issues whatsoever. If anything they are more reliable than Temu.
