Most games out there don't use ray-tracing so there are plenty of people who just don't care about those features.

Just a warning their video card trade in program is pretty much a bait and switch. The subreddit for newegg is full of people who are frustrated.
Nvidia isn't top in everything, especially video editing. Start from a workload perspective instead of brand loyalty .. and you'd find use cases where AMD makes the most sense outside of just price.
I have faith in your ability to research .. just not your follow through to do so. Good luck!
For example, I purchased my 7900XTX for $800 (a couple of months ago there was a brief sale on the XFX Merc 310 on Amazon). At that same price, I get the 4070Ti from NVidia. The two cards are matched in Ray Tracing performance, but the AMD card is leagues ahead in rasterization. Also, it ought to be noted that at that time the 4080 Super hadn't come out, and 4080 was selling at $1200 MSRP everywhere.
So instead of thinking that I'm getting 'downgraded' in ray tracing with AMD, I prefer to think I got a rasterization 'upgrade' for free with AMD. It also bears mentioning that with 24GB VRAM the 7900XTX is a much more forward looking card than the 16GB 4070Ti that you get for the same price with NVidia.
If prices were the same amongst competing options in each performance bracket, I would always go for NVidia. But pricing gap is often so disparate that it can't be overlooked.

But I still prefer my Radeons, because they have first-class support in Linux.

I have 7900XT, 7800XT, 3080 10GLHR and 4070Ti Super. You statement isn't true. In most cases in video editing Nvidia does better job. Exception is AV1 encoding, where Radeons shine and Adobe Premiere workload, where memory bus width makes sense.
But I still prefer my Radeons, because they have first-class support in Linux.
I literally said buy for the use case, which also may include platform considerations like Linux or perhaps you want to support a company that open sources their work .. or you want strong AV1 encoding especially for VR, without paying for a 4090.
So I think your reply is off base as well ... since you nearly walked your argument to where I started and are trying to push my stance into the other extreme. Comments like yours serve to only confuse new buyers just trying to figure out what card to get and perpetuate an outdated view of AMD in the current market. Enjoy your Radeons and RTXs ....
