I have 2 kids with QC45. Gone through 3 returns. 1 stopped working completely, 1 got crackling, 1 started to melt at USBC connection. Quality wasn't what I expected from Bose.

I've had Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones for a couple years now and I absolutely love them. The touch controls can be a bit annoying at times but the rest of them are fantastic.

I own QC45 and New Ultra. I have to say QC45 beats in comfortableness. I find myself using this more often.

I travel a lot and tried several different sets of over ear headphones before settling on the Sony WH-1000XM5. They regularly show up for $200-230 refurbished on EBay. I would hold out for the Sonys as I really didn't like the Bose noise cancelling.

If you google reviews and comparisons of noise cancelling headphones the Sonys are pretty unanimously better than the Bose. Even the older model XM4's tend to score better than the Bose.

So many different opinions. My sister has both Bose and Sony and says Bose is better with N/C and more comfortable. Can't hear any outside noise. However, Sony has better sound. Bose has more base if you like that kind of thing.

Do both of these Bose fold up?

Sony mics are trash so they are ruled out for home-office purposes

Love my qc45. Been using for two years with no problems. My qc35 are still working great too (gym use).

Good price and ebay has good customer service.

FYI if you want an easier return pathway and a slighter newer model, the QC45 SE is $170 with free shipping at costco.com

I have two of the (older) QC45s and I happen to really like them. Some of my family prefers the slightly-more-expensive Sony, but they're both great IMO.

Supposedly Sony MX5 not counting "expensive" units. I have many (with only one head, my wife asks why?) and my go to is the Bang & Olufsen H9i despite better reviews for my others (JBl Club One which is too heavy, Seinheiser PXC 550ii and the Jabra 85h).
