While a bit chunky, this minisforum tablet is about to become a thing. It will be the new king of powerful tablets. https://www.minisforum.com/page/v...ml?lang=en

Yes, it was disappointment. Microsoft needs to embrace ARM architecture more as that is the future. Too bad it's ARM -> x86 run-time is just slow as crap or I'd consider using a snapdragon arm64 Windows. It's also still interesting that even Apple Apps are still not using the Neuro-engine much yet that is built into Apple Silicon. All I see is GPU being utilized but that's likely because it's more portable across nvidia and apple silicon GPU.

Maybe the next release of IOS and MacOS will finally be rich-AI powered and leverage the neuro-engine.

All of my local LLM runs on the GPU and I'm fine with that for now since I don't game or use heavy graphics when I need to run some of the LLMS but at some point AI will always be in use and I'd rather it uses the neuro-engine chips.

yup. when they first hinted integrating AI, i thought it would have been interesting.. if the reviews are poor.. guess no point of having a 7nm slow as balls and power hungry chip. surface 9 it is!

although, the anti glare matte finish, i think it was.. kinda neat.

press release.

Today, we're introducing our latest devices, built exclusively for business, the Microsoft Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6. We designed these products from the ground up with direct input from our business customers, incorporating requested features ranging from enhanced connectivity options to advanced security and performance capabilities. These are our first AI PCs powered by the newest Intel Core Ultra processors, with a brand-new CPU and GPU, as well as an integrated neural processing unit - or NPU – for efficiently delivering AI acceleration. Engineered to work seamlessly with Copilot and Windows 11 Pro, Surface Pro 10 when paired with the new Surface Pro Keyboard and Surface Laptop 6 introduce a dedicated Copilot key1 that makes accessing generative AI experiences a click away.

I have the 5G version, I can concur that it's one of my favorite portable laptops. Screens are bright

Once I had, probably surface pro 3 or 4 era, it was 8GB RAM, though I like the form Factor and ease of carrying it.
But, battery life was really horrible and it becomes so hot sometimes you can literally iron your clothes.
Not sure how this has improved, I would rather get a surface laptop 13.3 with 16GB RAM minimum.
BTW Apple and MS too much crap in the name of quality. RAM and SSD becomes so cheap they still charge so much for this.

5G Surface Pro (arm chip) is great if you run all of the arm64 native software. running anything x86 thru emulation was horrible.

If x86 emulation is as good as Apple Silicon's rosetta then I would def buy the ARM Surface Pro 5G version too. For now, I tried SQ1 based surface pro x and it was enough for me to never try another arm64 Windows machine until they really improve software support. SQ3 isn't much better per all of the reviews.

Ifixit gives it a repairability score of 7/10. I could buy these going forward.

The software has come a long way. Windows 11 fixed a lot of issues, chrome is available as a native app. I have a 16gb sq2, and occasionally something weird might happen and it hangs up or a menu doesnt work. But that can happen on my 16 core intel desktop too.

Thanks for your experience. I tried it on the SQ1 a few months ago. It was running Win11 also. Maybe the SQ2 helped.

I do see that Chrome has finally released a ARM64 which is great news. The chromium version was really crappy. I haven't tried it the proper Chrome ARM64 though.

That could be good enough for me to pick up a used one again since it was Chrome that I really needed to run native, I can ignore everything else that is not native since I really needed a super snappy browser and IE Edge is not able to support what I need.

Snapdragon X may also be the final chip we need!
