The draw of this device is in its 1:1 screen. It does GB/GBC/Pico8 flawlessly. This is what its for. If you don't care for these systems, there are far better options.
This.
I have soooo many different handhelds like this. The screen here is really nice, but the rest of the device definitely feels CHEAP. It's also not super portable like some of the others (it's a big square).
If you simply need perfect Gameboy / GBC, then sure get this. But if your preferred systems are consoles, pass on this device.
Based on my research, I feel that the RG35XXH can handle a bit more games (N64, DC) and reviews on the RG35xxH are pretty overwhelmingly positive, so I went with the RG35XXH (and its ~$10 cheaper).
I personally like the looks of the RG35XXH better as well, but thats obv subjective. Prob cant go wrong with either for the prices.
I got a few devices like rg35xx, retroid pocket 3+ and etc... These devices can hook up to my tv and a wire control very well, but they cannot be used the control and power charge the same time. It seems both rgb30 and rg35xx H have 2 usb-c ports. I wonder if I both ports can be used for charging and wired control at the same time w/o getting devices exploded..... due to heat issue or whatever.

The reason people buy this is the square aspect ratio for Gameboy classic and Pico8 and it's very decent at 4:3 aspect ratio systems too. Kinda gives you that Analogue Pocket experience.
Why would you ever put a 1:1 screen on something like this? Retro games would be 4:3, no?
"The 256x224 SNES screen is not 4:3, but rather 8:7" Same for NES. So all of early portable devices, NES, SNES, SEGA Genesis will look better in this device. Also pico-8 is 1:1 so this device is perfect for that. Most Arcade vertical games will look awesome in this. so 1:1 has an advantage for lower end and arcade games compared to 4:3
Anybody happen to know which of these MANY devices I might get 2 of, download a game for any system, and play with my 8ish year old with us each having one?
Something like old arcade TMNT but seriously any system. He's going to shatter a steam deck if I get one, and buying 2 is insane. Any interactivity at all could make it a "family" thing instead of just him on a handheld. I know there were GBA games where you could hook up a couple of GBAs? Can we still do that?

Only 1GB RAM? You're better off using an Android device with a controller to have a better experience.
Love how I can play Dreamcast and GCN on my phone.
if you go that route I love my bsp d8 controller
now there are many other controllers on the market but I went with it for it can not get nintendo swift drift for it uses those magnetic Hall effect for the joystick.
Cost like $30 on ebay (one of those drop shoppings like this ali express) or like $40 on amazon. Some people got it cheaper than the $30
It's mostly just the shell that feels like cheap, toylike plastic. It's pretty comfortable to hold, but the blocky design definitely doesn't look premium at all.
I love my RGB30, the screen is excellent. This is an ideal device for GBC, SNES (in 8:7), Genesis (in 8:7), vertical arcade games, and Pico-8, as others have said.
One note is that the operating system it comes with, JelOS, has ended support for this device but it's quite mature, so I don't think it's an issue to not have future software updates. And there are alternative Linux distributions that one can install on this instead.

What you're looking for is an inexpensive device that has a community-created custom firmware that supports netplay. (You can use that as a search term).
A problem is that none of these handheld emulation devices are built as well as an OEM device like a Nintendo 2DS. The Miyoo Mini+ is great but pretty fragile, so I wouldn't entrust a kid with it unless they're very responsible and cautious. The RG35XX (non +) may be a bit more durable but I don't know if the netplay experience is good.

GB/GBC/pico8/shmups. These systems look their best on this device. Everything else is better on a 4:3 device.

Pretty killer price here, too.
