The 2x onboard 40gig thunderbolt ports is extremely impressive for this price. If I want that for my Asus board, I have to pay for a $120 expansion card (or pay 400+ bucks for a model that has it onboard).

Z series is fun. I run a home server with one. allows pci passthrough without any conflicts, which the B series cannot on an AMD chip.

The reviews you mentioned are practically worthless. They're unrealistic complaints from people with equally unrealistic expectations. Anyone who is seriously considering this board should check out a professional review. FWIW, if I hadn't gotten my own AM5 build to finally post yesterday I was prepared to buy it myself based on what I found about it. It's a killer deal for a board that launched north of $600, which was also one of the few complaints about it in the reviews I read.
Yep, looks like a sweet deal for anyone shopping Intel CPUs. I am shopping for the AMD X3D CPUs for a Microsoft Flight Sim rig.

I bought some 6400 DDR5 CL 32 Ram and it had problems with stability when paired with a 13700k CPU. I had to bump the ram down to 6200 to get rid of it randomly rebooting my PC. The exact kit was XPG Lancer AX5U6400C3216G-DTLABRBK. I'm not sure if its this specific kit that has issues, or whether its the fact that it's pushing this mobos limits with the speed and timings.... but I cannot run mine at the full speed without running into issues.

MSI z690 Meg Ace has those and has been $200 for a MSRP $550 board.

I have the Ace and like it so much I got a second as a spare or back up. Super nice board.
ugh... I think it dropped to that twice, and both times I had to prevent myself form buying one. lol. The biggest drawback for me was that it was e-ATX, and that highly limits what cases will fit it, especially if you don't want something massive

What case are you using with yours?

It looks amazing, and the features you get at the discounted price is insane (no idea why they are discounting it so much, even now its just $230, which still isn't too bad.)

The MEG Z690 Ace is unnecessarily huge. While I can install it in Antec P1 FT (Full Tower) without a problem, plugging in SATA cables is another story. Another issue related to its size is that a larger PCB is more likely to be bent somewhere. On the other hand, my Z690 Taichi Razer is perfectly flat.

Thermaltake View 51

Not listed as a E-ATX but the MB fits into it just fine. Was on sale in the $140 range when I got it.

Maybe unlike your Z690 Taichi Razer that has no back plate the MEG Z690 Meg Ace does and shows no sign of being bent.

Also the Ace has 5 x M.2 slots with double sided pads so that maybe is adding to the HUGE size. The Razer has 3 x M.2.

No issues with SATA slots but I have all NVME drives in mine.

  1. Are you sure about Z690 Taichi Razer's back plate? Are you sure Ace is less likely bent than smaller mobos?
  2. There are many ATX mobos feature 5 or more NVMe slots.
  3. I didn't experience any SATA port issue on Ace, I perceived and stated it as a mobo size issue.

Partial BP maybe no point in it at all. Are you sure just because something is smaller it won't bend?

And?

And?

My MSI Suprim X 4090 has no bend or flex when installed. Has a great BP and other construction to keep it from bending.

Maybe I should thank you for bringing that up. The Suprim X 4090 and Z690 Taichi indeed have smaller, lighter and stiffer back plate compared to MEG Z690 Ace. Oh, they have smaller PCB too.

agreed. 2 thunderbolt AND 2 pcie5x16 ports is pretty wild. I paid $255 for the B650e Taichi Lite, with only one of each of those ports, not even 6 months ago. that board is still $260 at newegg.
Then again, this board is lacking in gen 5 m2 slots, which is currently more useful than gen 5 pci slots. so to make up for that, buyers would have to get an m2 to pcie5 adapter. this is potentially better anyway since you can cram more m2 SSDs into your case this way if needed, just requires a little more investment to get gen 5 SSDs on this board. if you need that glorious speed.

With how many ports and features this has, and knowing how ASRock set up the ports on my B650e, some of the pcie or m2 ports on this board likely shut off when others are in use. definitely worth pulling up the manual and checking. want to use all of the m2 slots? one or two might shut off if you use specific pci ports...

I've been happy enough with the b650e taichi lite. it's 1" wider than atx though, just another detail to keep in mind.
