That's the plan.

However, I seem to get stuck on step 4 because using a different phone that is unlocked, I couldn't get ATT to see my Samsung S20 unlocked phone. I did send some text and make calls to try and get the network to register a different device, but nothing has changed on my ATT's online account (I used web, not app). It still shows Samsung S23 on my account's Home dashboard (two places: left and center). Manually changing the device to another device that I have when going under "Refresh my connection" doesn't seem to work either (and actually using the referesh my connection).

Update: I downloaded myAT&T app to my S20 phone and it actually sees S20 and not S23. I'm going to go with that the website is slow to update. Going to continue on with OP's steps to see where I get.
Did it work for you buddy?

Is there reason you are want to run those ROMs? Samsung's one UI is now a lot better and has blessings from google.

What do I need to do to sim swap? I am struggling to get the unlocked phone to show up in the myATT device list despite putting the sim card from the s23 in and making a few calls and sending some texts.

It now shows up on the app, but not on the website. Am I just waiting? Or is there something else I need to do.

You might want to clear the browser cache and see if they makes it show up. Showing up in one plqce should be good enough though.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank gadgetNerd

I updated the unlock instructions in the wiki to indicate if IMEI 1(physical SIM) is not working with ATT unlock system, try IMEI2 (eSIM) of S23.

I had S22+ and S23 ultra and Ultra is way better if you don't mind a big phone. If you take a lot of pictures then spending the extra is a no-brainer. If you don't need the camera then S23 I think will do fine.

I am using S22+ as of now and it lags a lot after the update.

Yeah, the whole S22 series is plagued with subpar Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. 8 Gen 2 in S23 series is much better.

Even if port out, you will need to verify with them the account is cancelled so I'd jus chat with them to cancel. You also have a transcript to say if they say otherwise later.

so I added a line, and i activated phone. Made some calls. I just put the sim in an unlocked pixel 6a and made a call. The att login overview still shows the Samsung, so I guess I cannot unlock it yet. Do I need to give it more time or do something else? Thanks!

nevermind, needed to wait 10 minutes.
