FYI Target is once again offering a free $10 Target gift card when you spend at least $100 on Apple gift cards online or in stores. The deal is valid 3/24 thru 3/30 according to page 7 of the weekly ad preview: https://weeklyad.target.com/promo...324&page=7 Ad typically indicates limit of 1 per guest, but YMMV in stores.

https://www.target.com/s?searchTe...+gift+card

RedCard holders can save an additional $4.50. The discount is not equal to 5% ($5) because Target assigns a $10 charge to the "free" gift card and $90 for the remaining balance owed. Therefore RedCard 5% is based on $90 so the discount equals $4.50.

If you elect to make a purchase in-store, please check the gift card for any evidence of tampering prior to purchase. If you find a suspicious card, give it to customer service to prevent another customer from being scammed.

Balance check: https://support.apple.com/en-us/108111

P.S. Apple has a limit of $2000 (*I believe*) to be saved to your Apple Account Balance + an additional 4 gift cards during checkout when using the Apple Store app, but the website checkout still allows 8. An individual gift card can also not exceed $2000. Gift cards can be used on hardware, apps and services.

As of iOS 15, you can add your Apple Account Balance as a card in the Wallet app. This helps to prevent some technical errors when shopping online, and allows for easier shopping when in a store.

In the past, purchasing third-party gift cards has qualified for Target Circle Bonus promotions.

Here is what the new physical Apple Gift Cards look like. The front looks the same. The big difference is the back with the hologram security sticker. The check out person has to physically rip into the card and scan it. I assume if the rest of the packaging is unaltered, it is hard to do that and make it look brand new again.

Wonder how many previous generation are left on the shelf. I'm sure the scammers have attacked all of those especially if these new ones thwart the criminals.

Would love to hear people's success with these newer ones. The one I bought when they first came out was successful.

Bought 3 online. Went through and received very fast. They have gone to another generation of in store cards to fight theft. I haven't seen anyone say these have been hacked like the others. No more free stickers. Ill post photo of the new design later. I added to earlier expired thread.

Can you still purchase the new gift cards via self checkout?

I believe so, you have to be the one to rip it open and scan, but you may want to have the self-checkout Target person at your side as a first try in case it doesn't work. At least there is employee witness. As long as the checkout scanner is recording the card and then the payment to the card it shouldn't make a difference I would think.

In-store there is no limit. Problem was going to same check out person too often in one time. Self check was ok. The danger was you could buy a lot and they'd be scammed like 1000s of dollars. Read some horror stories early on.

This is incorrect. In-store limit is YMMV. That's a reason why people would use self checkout.

Based on my experience in addition to comments from others in previous threads, some stores enforce a policy of $500 for third-party gift cards.

Well that is my point of not using the same check out person or getting recognized (YMMV). Go in different times and different days.

As far as I understand it on here, there is no technical sale limit to in-store purchases beyond getting recognized and stopped. Do the registers stop you from buying at a certain amount? I've read that people have bought four digits from the stores.

There is no POS limit that I am aware of, but I was saying in-store limit is YMMV because employees may stop you based on the individual store's policy.

That's why I think it's misleading to say, "In-store there is no limit."

Also, the weekly ad typically indicates limit of 1 per guest (which obviously they can enforce if they choose).

Hope that clarifies. I wasn't attempting to start an argument. Just wanted to inform others.

I hope more people will see & upvote your comment with the pics.

Thanks much appreciated. Hard to tell where people are coming from online. Smilie

Definitely need to plan strategically if you want to do multiple purchases as you said.

I'm most interested in hearing more anecdotes about the new card design. I suppose it has been out awhile and nobody has complained so far on here. People readily shared their horror stories. It really is a mess (I was a victim) - clearly bad enough they keep trying to improve the design.

Yea, tone can be difficult to read online.

I hope people will see the new design prior to weighing in with past experiences. I'm sorry you were a victim before. That sucks.
