I've purchased two pairs of these, and paid more than this each time. I genuinely don't think you'll find a better deal at this price point. My ONLY complaint (more like an observation) is that they're a bit soft on the treble, but you can counter that my turning it up a little bit. That aside, these punch way above their price point.

How is this compared to the MR4s as a PC speaker? I'm going to be using it for mostly multimedia consumption.
MR4s have a better tweeter and waveguide, but they have a rear-firing port that you'll need to have at least 6" or so off the wall.

Ahh OK, thanks for that info. Treble is a critical setting for a speaker since I will be watching lots of YouTube, Netflix, and movies.

For nearfield like on a desk, I'd choose the MR4s over the 1700s. I've got my 1280's treble bumped up a tiny bit, and the sub crossed over at about 100Hz, and it's well rounded for the size.
Yeah, I think the MR4s are designed specifically for nearfield, whereas the 1700s are more for an "entertainment" type setup. I personally just use KEF Q150s hooked to a Denon receiver and a Klipsch sub as my computer speakers... but I have my own office and can do whatever I want for my sound. Hahaha.

For those wondering:

https://www.sony.net/Products/LDAC/

These speakers do not have Bluetooth LDAC codec support, so don't expect wireless audio to have great treble (High frequency) because the generic BT SBC / AAC won't have it because the codecs cut off high frequencies.

But let's face it, not buying a KRK or higher end pair of BT monitoring speakers here...
These have the aptx codec though which, for most people, will be "good enough".
