It's out of stock but the listing does show only open-box at his mentioned price, but like he stated it was YMMV even back when he bought it and it's completely OOS now, so no use: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-d...Id=6538771

As much as I hate HP, this is still tempting. If it had one USB type A port I'd probably bite. Need more options for decently built 14" ultrabooks with ryzen. Trying to replace an aging x1 carbon and intel options seem lackluster in terms of battery life and heat.

Returned a T14s g4 amd because the screen and speakers were atrocious. Screen could be upgraded but speakers cant, and it was clunkier than expected considering the S model has gotten thinner and lighter with some revisions.

For those who might find that a dealbreaker, this has no headphone jack, just USB-C ports so if you want to use traditional wired headphones with it you're going to need a USB-C dongle.

It's an odd choice on HP's part, because the Dragonfly Elite G3/G4 which is considerably smaller does have a headphone jack, as well as HDMI and a USB-A port.

I don't see the draw here, this is a Zen 3 part with 680M right? And why did they go with TB3 instead of USB4 considering it's a ryzen?

Agree, and it's also heavy at 3.4 lbs. Some 14-inch laptops are a full pound lighter.

Doesn't the dragonfly weigh under 3 lbs? What model number is it?

They have this at Costco and it weighs 2.2 lbs, I know it's a different spec.

My guess is they took their time developing this, and initially had it with a 6800u or something. Instead of jumping through hoops to get 7840u they just released it with the rebranded 6800u. I thought I read somewhere zen 4 mobile isnt much better in terms of battery life with lighter workloads, so for most ultrabook use cases it should be great still.

TB3 just for marketing I guess? Arent TB3 and USB4 almost identical?

Very few zen3+ systems with usb4. USB4 was finalized in 2019 and is equal in speed to TB3 which was developed by Intel back in 2015. Market adoption of usb4 docks and enclosure along with compatibility were most likely factors to HP at the time. HP chose TB3 to most likely lure mac users/ people who owned thunderbolt docks. Also remember USB4 was introduced for zen3+ Rembrandt and integrators were not really implementing it early on for various reasons.

My lenovo z13 with 6850u has two USB4 ports, it's fully compatible with TB3 docks and eGPU, and based on some sources, it seems AMD's implementation of USB4 meets the TB4 specs.

The Z series from Lenovo are premium, more premium in price compared to a Dragonfly. I can see why it has it. My Lenovo legion 5 2023 has no usb4, my 2023 g14 from Asus has one usb4. The system integrators do as they see fit, for better, or worse.
