If its aim is to emulate the console experience, then it seems perfectly apt to emulate the controller as well. It does for me at least.
I'm going to shirk off the angsty-ness in your comment, I imagine you're passionate about the topic as well.
It "literally makes sense" and others have agreed above^ even. Figuratively it makes sense too.

Very pleased thus far. I got an iplay mini pro 50 NFE for about $80 (super sale) and couldn't be happier with the pair. It can play any USB C thing, and the PS Play app runs perfectly and without onscreen overlay controls (which was wrongly said online to be only PS-branded Backbone compatible).

Threw this on the back of the controller and now it works as a stand for watching netlix too.

Alternative for me to all the Emu handhelds that have been the rage - miyo*-amber* stuff. So I dont have to maintain and charge another device.
Having used this BackBone Gen2 for a bit now - the Dpad is fantastic.
I agree - Gamesir has some great choices. What has your experience been with the Dpad?
Also - talk from those that have both saying the BackBone feels better built? I agree - it feels great.

Downsides for the G8:
On my android tablet, once in awhile the controller will show up as some kind of variant, just needs and 2 second unplug and replug to fix.
It's EASY to mod, but without a 3d printed back extender it gets a tiny bit janky as it is out of track and you have to put it back together. Can't extend the Backbone this far AT ALL so not really a downside.
The Gamesir software is totally confusing to me and seems to create android popups asking if I really really want to allow it control over and over. If I didn't want the back triggers I wouldn't use it at all.
Before the G8 came, I was playing PS Play on the tablet with a PS5 controller and the controls are the same, but HZD and most games are made for PS5.
Last downside is that there aren't any good cases for the G8 with a tablet, but I found that a PS Portal case sort of works. I'm going to use a heat gun to melt the internal plastic to widen it inside and I'll have an all-in-one.
I LOVE it with Moonlight, but found that Sunshine and Moonlight with ZeroTier were a PITA to set up. But playing my Alienware PC anywhere is also a huge win.
In December they had it for $30, making the net cost about $5
That model is the BB-02-W-S

You will need to use an unofficial app for the non PlayStation branded backbone.
