Note: While this will now be the standard T-Mobile Connect plan at this price tier, due to overwhelmingly positive feedback and high interest from the community in the new upgrade from 3.5GB to 5GB of data monthly (previously announced as a jump to only 4GB), we have promoted this offer to the Frontpage for light data/mostly-WiFi users to consider.
T-Mobile offers their T-Mobile Connect Prepaid Wireless Service Plan w/ Unlimited Talk & Text + 5GB Data for $15/month (plus taxes & fees). Purchase of a SIM Card Starter Kit for $10 (one-time cost) may also be required.
Thanks to community member picframe for finding this deal.

Unlimited domestic talk & text
5GB of data per month (domestic)
100MB domestic roaming data

Notice my $15 plan up from 3.5GB to 5.0GB this March. ( it was supposed to be extra 500MB a year til 2025 ) Other than that, same old Global Wifi-calling, ESIM support, unlimited voice/msg.. nothing more......
If you dont feel like paying big chunk at once, this is not a bad deal. Plus, you can change plan on the fly ( such I go down to $10 before I travel oversea or switch to $25 plan for my summer outdoor activities - all via website without talking to CSR )

It's a hard cap. But you can easily top it up, if needed. For example, top up by $5 gives you an additional 2GB.
I have been on T-Mobile connect for the last 1 year and it has been great for me.

Uh, I live in Illinois and I'm on this plan. It costs $15/month. Not sure where you are getting $18.45.
Even if you add in the refill card tax, that is still only 16.65.
US Mobile Lite plan for $72 for a year that works out to $6 a month is the cheapest 1gb option I could find. But I was looking for unlimited talk and text with any amount of data.
They also have a Custom Plan option I found while signing up with them. They don't seem to advertise it anywhere.
I think the cheapest option was $3 but I don't remember if that was just data or just calling or what. Again I was looking for unlimited talk and text with some data. I only remember it would have been more expensive than the $6 with ANY data. It would be worth looking into for your needs though.
Also look into Tello. They have custom plans with low or no minutes too. Their prices don't include tax like US Mobile does though. Actually idk if US Mobile "custom" plan includes taxes or not.
Good2Go Mobile annual $5 per month 1GB plan has unlimited talk and text. Taxes were $12 per year in my area which makes it $6 per month but you pay one year at a time (60+12=72).
What Connect by T-Mobile plans qualify for international add-ons?
International add-ons are available on Connect by T-Mobile $15 and higher monthly plans.
What if I'm calling Mexico or Canada exclusively?
With the $5 Mexico & Canada Unlimited Calling & Texting you get unlimited calling to and from the U.S., Mexico and Canada while on our network or roaming with a partner, plus unlimited texting to 215+ countries and destinations while in a coverage area in the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
T-mobile was supposedly replacing the $10 pre-paid sim starter kit with a $25 Device Connection Charge beginning 3/21/24, but it looks like that hasn't been implemented yet online.
Seems like the $25 plan has increased from 6.5GB to 8GB now. I wonder if this is finally time for me to switch out of my grandfathered $30 100minutes 5GB plan from 10 years ago
I am planning to switch out from my old 5gb $30 plan but waiting for the end of the billing cycle

You do realize taxes are different everywhere. It's federal, state, county, municipal.
So far? You've got federal and state the same. You have no idea what county he lives in nor municipality.
As for taxes as a whole? They're beyond obfuscated. Basic math only goes so far. Shit changes as well such as refill card tax. Refill cards weren't charged sales tax or wireless fees until recently. Now IDK how or why it changed but near me it has.
so if you're on an older plan, do you need to purchase a new sim card? does t-mobile provide and do they email you? is it $15 activation to switch from my original Walmart $30 plan to this plan. Thanks
You should be able to switch if you're from another carrier or even if already with T-Mobile on another plan. When I switched from the $30 Walmart T-Mobile plan I apparently had an old sim card so they shipped me a new one for free in order to switch.
Did they transfer the balance from the old account to the new account?

I believe I used my same SIM, but I had already gotten a newer SIM not long before. So as long as your SIM is new enough, there should be no change.

If I read this correctly, you could pay an additional $5 for their Mexico and Canada add-on.
