  • HELLDIVERS 2 is a 3rd person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats. From a 3rd person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers) and stratagems (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot and kill the alien threats. Players can also aim down the sights for a more accurate 1st person camera view. Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Enemy encampments and battlefield environments depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses.

It's definitely not for everyone, but I'm loving it. I don't play a ton of games but this scratches the itch. Just dumb, chaotic, accidental, and often silly nonsense.

Each deployment is 5-45 min depending on how you play. Each mission set is usually 3 types of mission ( blow up X, move X to Y, survive X). Each player gets 5 respawns, dying isn't important, the mission is the priority, it doesn't always matter if you survive (as long as you get the mission done). There is a "meta" but that's boring, so there is 40+ different strategems (orbitals, airstrikes, big guns, turrets, etc) you can choose from.

It's PvE, has friendly fire, has various play styles, is hilarious at times and other times is just pure chaos. Watch some videos and see if it's your bag.

If you are into ranking, k/d, metas, PvP, mass multiplayer, "seasons", cosmetics, 4x, resource gathering, or other types of games this might not groove.

P.S. it has in game credits (super credits) that you can buy to unlock premium battle pass things. they have new armor and guns. The best thing is as you unlock new things, you get these credits. Just finishing the default included battlepass grants you 750 super credits. The premium ones cost 1000 and give you 300 when you complete them. You also can find super credits by playing (10-100 each mission).

I love this game. I'm not a big fan of or good at FPS games. This one has a simple formula; Drop in, kill things, get wrecked, kill more things, get wrecked some more, kill more things, and fail or clear the mission. It is repetitive but is very enjoyable.

As a fellow boomer/grandpa I have to say I am playing less FPS games these days and more into strategy/ARPG games. But, I'm wondering how you (or anyone) thinks this plays solo. Really, the last FPS game I played much was the Borderlands series. Is Helldivers 2 anything like those? Lastly, was there a Helldivers I?
There definitely was a HellDivers 1. I've put in > 1200 hours in HellDivers 1 on both PC and PlayStation. It's 3/4 isometric view, with 1-4 player sharing the same screen and the same camera.

It's not for everyone.

Like HellDivers 2, it is highly-repetitve, chaotic, and lots of fun with friends on voice comms. And it also has toxic players who PVP and grief each other. In the end, it was these toxic players that led me to stop playing HellDivers 1.

The best moments were when the whole squad just got killed but you or one of the players throws the last reinforce right at the last second, to bring the whole squad back and keep the mission going. Good times, good times.

Inconsistent game stability, though.
The good news is that ArrowHead has great support and continually works to fix serious bugs.
I earned a special Community Cape reporting bugs to them on HellDivers 1. They were super-responsive, often fixing things within the next 1 or 2 patch releases.

I fully expect ArrowHead to fix all the serious issues with HellDivers 2 within 6 months of the original launch date.

BTW, I wasn't the one who downvoted you--if I did, I'd be a hypocrite. The way I turned into an impromptu beta tester for ArrowHead was that I started by pointing out the bugs, and they were kind and mature enough to receive my input gratefully as constructive criticism.

I usually like games that I can solo, but playing this alone SUCKSSSSSS.

Even with randoms the game is much more enjoyable. According to steam Im at 30 hours which is a LOT for me, and I dont feel its repetitive yet. The music and soundFX are incredible. You FEEL every explosion. Its great.

I do feel like im using the same weapons and stratagems a lot though. Wish they'd balance everything out better and let us test out weapons before buying.

I agree. I refunded due to the repetitiveness.

It's a decent game that you can sink a good amount of time into but it more about grinding for samples realistically then there's not much to do right now

All the missions and orders are really weird cause you have such a small impact on whatever you are doing and difficulty doesn't matter whether you play level 1 or 9

It's interesting to play a PvE kind of game again like L4D and the military style gameplay is just what we need if you are tired of the COD crap they throw out these days

I like it.

Yes the game is repetitive kind of. But for an adult that need to work and take care of wife and kids. A simple 15-30min run without thinking too much and don't need to dive in complicated control and mechanic is a totally plus.

It remind me of L4D2. Also fun and chaos and simple.

If you want AAA game that has long play and long story don't buy it.

I agree with all the comparisons with left 4 dead, but with a significantly better range of scenarios, strategies to play, and recommend it. Best to play with friends, randoms have been surprisingly fun as well.

It's playable, but you have to crank all the settings down.

Bought it. Played it. Can't wrap my mind around why it's so popular. The meme-ness of the game is humorous, but the loop is repetitive. It lacks a sense of progression or goals to reach for. I expected more but it was only $30, and had a few good hours with friends. So many other better shooters out there.
