For those on the fence about upgrading from old gen CPU: this is all you need to change and al else can remain the same. Ideally you should swap out the power supply unit but that is completely optional. If you have upgrade in mind, this is a really cheap way to get ready for a graphic card upgrade, all the way into 4090 and possibly more. Sure, it will leave "performance on the table" that more money would grab, but I am reaching out to those who are so budget sensitive even $100 more will cause ginormous stress.

Sorry, was my first post! Will remember to do so in future.

I should have also mentioned that this CPU is a "F" version meaning a separate graphic card is needed to run this CPU. "K" means unlocked and overclocking compatible but such activity is best left to hardcore performance optimizers. Take it from intel that they do more QC testing to release unlocked K versions that can operate under hotter temperature, stress etc so overall you are getting a "better lot" than standard CPU without the "K". However, this is not a CPU you want to overclock as there is far little to gain overclocking an i5 than i7 or i9. Always snap a photo of the numbers on CPU box before throwing away- FPO as "Batch#" and the ATPO as "S/N" on the box of your CPU for RMA purposes.
pretty amazing budget kit
Some gamers including me may want an integrated GPU for their second monitor to ensure that gaming performance on the first monitor is not compromised.

This deal is still solid... but does indeed remind me that I absolutely saw that $120 deal and could have pulled the trigger but didn't. Facepalm

Good luck!

Yes, I got this package. It does not come with a CPU cooler, but there are good ones like Cooler Master that only costs $16. Contains thermal paste too! So long as you are not going to overclock they work amazing.
Alternative is the Thermalright Assassin King [amazon.com] for $17 regular priced at Amazon.

Any idea how often they refresh these bundles? I was looking the Ryzen bundles yesterday when all of the sudden the price jumped up on all of them!
Those ryzen bundles were discounted an extra $30 for about a month. To be honest, I thought the extra $30 was the permenant new price. I wish I grabbed the 7800x3d combo when it was $50 off instead of $30 off, but I guess I can be happy with what I got now.

I haven't needed to troubleshoot with an igpu for over 15 years.

Can you give me a link to the $16 cooler master cpu cooler?

I don't see that price anymoreโ€ฆ must have been a clearance just for my location microcenter- I grabbed the one and only left while I was picking up the package. As mentioned by another comment, thermal assassin is a great buy too around the same price on amazon.

I would love to see some stats on this. I'm assuming you plug secondary monitor into motherboard?
I pulg my main monitor to my 4090and plug my second monitor to mother board with a CPU of 7800x3d.
Everything runs perfectly.

Picked one of these up today for my Zwift PC build, felt it was a really good deal on a mid tier CPU.
Had to look this up and very cool. Screw you Peloton!

Let's try a rough calculation:
  1. Value the 16GB DDR4 RAM at $40
(MC sells kits as low as $42)
  2. Value the motherboard at $60
(this is probably where you can play with this valuation to squeeze the next number)
  3. That puts the two CPUs at $150 vs. $230
As both CPUs contain 4 e-cores, the key distinction is 6 p-cores vs. 8 p-cores.

Ignoring the value of the e-cores, that leaves you paying about $25/p-core in the i5 and nearly $30/p-core in the i7.

So not only is the i5 cheaper but it is arguably a better value for the everyday performance.

Of course, there are other distinctions between the CPUs relating to max core clocks, cache, etc.

And then of course your application may benefit significantly from additional p-cores (video transcoding?).

Also, my low-ball of the motherboard evaluation gives a lot of weight to the CPU (essentially putting them at or above the retail price). Perhaps you might want to play with that valuation to determine how significant the difference is for you (especially in consideration of the other factors mentioned).

Went in to buy this bundle to build my daughter's first PC, ended up with the $399 bundle instead. i9 and 32GB DDR5. $150 more but I feel like it'll be more future proof.

Or you could just take the $100+ saved on the bundle and get a better graphics card!

And that's the closest we get to the flat earth equivalent in pc gaming lol. My guy is running a 7800x3d + 4090 combo but is connecting one monitor to the igpu to save performance, that's absolutely hilarious.
