You can also check what viscosity the rest of the world uses, so you won't be wrong. Toyota recommends different viscosity in the US as compared to Japan and Australia. Same engine, same software, same everything, different recommendations.

No, Mobil paid to have their logo on manuals/filler caps possibly but dealers buy bulk oil and when you take it in for service unless you bring your own oil, unlikely you're getting Mobil 1. I bought some at the $63 price point cause 0w16 but I don't think Mobil 1 is anything special, ymmv.

Just grabbed this deal because from reading ep > afe overall. Next 3 oil changes are covered now for less than 80 bucks give or take few bucks
I do know when I switched from dealership to amsoil signature, my car ran so much quieter, and just ran better. So their barrels are cheap crap. But still ran none the less just fine

They also have the high mileage version of the 0W-20 for the same $29.97 individually too.

Motorcraft wins and Mobil 1 doesn't place so high. Anyway this guy is pretty great at testing stuff. Project Farm.
Car has 2k on it now and it's running well. I decided to go ahead and order this deal 15 quarts of EP for my Scion I might stick with 10 or 15k don't know.
Was going to stay with afe but this oil claims it cleans engine instead of afe just reducing sludge. So why not.
I have 3 oem Toyota filters in garage they are 4 a piece, and now enough oil for next 3 oil changes too. That's like 28 dollars per change. I assume oil is good for years so no issue on worrying about that.
Now my question is, I just went back to oem filter since amsoil filters have been out of stock for my car. I wonder if I can push them to 15k I know Toyota rates them for 10k since that's what my car oci is.
I do burn about half a quart in 10k miles I think. Which works out perfect being 4.6qt oil change leaving .4 for top up at 5k
15k is crazy long IMO. I wouldn't go over 10k. I do my changes at 5-7.5k and the oil is so dirty and sheared down.

This! I remember Ford asked for 5w-20 in the same engine that previously had 5w-30. Those model years absolutely drank oil. 1qt/1k. I remember changing oil on some of those and literally a quart would come out lol. Almost bone dry.
It took about 2 oil changes to get everything out and bring the viscosity back up. Oil usage went to 1qt/5k miles. All to squeak out a miniscule mpg number to meet new standards. I wanna say it was somewhere around 2005-2010.
Agreed. While prices may be higher it is nowhere in the ballpark of replacing your engine because of oil failure. Spend the extra money on the extra oil change for peace of mind.
