This device was designed for planned obsolescence. I hope framework eats their lunch (though it's obviously way more expensive)
It's only 0.62 inches height, there's no way to place those obsolete ports.
Thin laptops don't have room for an SODIMM slot.
Technically, very high speed RAM is more reliable when soldered and is faster (lower latency). Try and find 6400MT/s SODIMM's. My Lenovo P16s actually has 7200MT/s chips in it. You simply cannot run high speed ram reliably through a SODIMM connection. Lastly, the use of LPDDR5 (Low Power DDR5) uses less power and extends battery life. I've only ever seen LPDDR5 soldered.
What percentage of monitors (old and new) don't have HDMI?
What percentage of external hard drives, wireless mice (non-BT) and flash drives aren't USB-A?
Kind of deal breaker if you use track pointer
I can only assume that the downvoters aren't TrackPoint users or don't care about the UltraNav layout (my foremost reason for purchasing ThinkPads). That's perfectly reasonable, but the inclusion of discrete buttons is important to some people – including those with disabilities impacting dexterity.
I might have overlooked this detail, so I sincerely appreciate the heads-up.

This is a good laptop otherwise.
I was interested in it last time it was on sale, and found out that design trade off. Most non ultranav users enjoyed larger apple like trackpad, but like the 40 series that came out 10 years ago, I personally cannot use the integrated ultranav button, and has to return and skip over that entire generation. be able to use track pointer is the primary reason for me as long time Thinkpad user for over 20 years
This laptop doesn't have TB4, it has USB 4. which is slightly less capable.
TB4 dock would normally work fine with USB 4, until you do large size file transfers to max speeds.

I'm telling potential buyers that if they are buying it with the intention of using with Thinkpad Thunderbolt 4 dock, Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 dock, Kennsington Thunderbolt 4 dock, they will be sorely disappointed. (I've tested all above.)

With this laptop?
I happen to have the Thinkpad TB4 dock, and I have a few laptop with TB4 or USB 4. The only issues I have with USB 4 laptop in TB4 dock is when I transfer huge (20g+) size files with USB 3.1 gen 2x2 drives.
I haven't had any other issue, granted, I also hasn't try out one of those TB 4 dock with build in 7600 dgpu, but id like to think for the most majorly of use case, TB4 or USB 4 makes very little difference
Personally, I don't like having to use a dongle or adapter just to plug something in that doesn't match an available port. It's infinitely more convenient to have a USB-A and USB-C and RJ45 port on my laptop.
Check out the definition of "obsolete". USB-A and HDMI are not obsolete. Floppy discs and SCSI drive interfaces are obsolete.
