I use this very same tool day in and day out. I go through 100 pack of AliExpress ZoeRax Brand Cat5/Cat6 PassThru ends in about 2 weeks. This Klein Tool cuts the wires and crimps much much better than AliExpress ZoeRax Branded Tool that you can order with the Pass Thru connectors. Pins 1 and 8 cut every time with the Klein tool, Whereas you have to try to re-cut/crimp with the cheaper crimper. Very similar crimping experience with Platnum Tools crimper with corresponding Platnum Tools connectors.

I have and have had (tools have been stolen) nearly every Pass Thru Crimper on the market and can confidently say that this particular Klein Stripper is the best experience I have had with cheap AliExpress Pass Thru ends.

Search Within Ali: ZoeRax Cat6 CAT5e Pass Through RJ45 Modular Plug

I use the 100 Pack for $4.54

You will notice a similar tool from ZoeRax that is yellow. It works. It is slightly smaller and is a mirror image, you have to flip this tool 180 in your hands compared to the Klein. If you don't do this work day in and day out, I can recommend that $10-11 tool to get you through the job or for installing a few Security cameras as a DIYer.

I have this. I think I paid $49. The street price is about $50. It just works. I'd buy it again.

I have this one. Did my whole home and FIL's house with solid 23AWG Cat6.

The sheath cutter works well and the crimper never fails.

Would be super nice if there was an easier way to trim the wires evenly and cut the inner core out.

I bring a pair of scissors for that currently.
After lining and straightening the wires, I use the same CUT section(for cutting the whole cable next to STRIP) of the tool to trim evenly, I also use it trim the core sometimes but the recessed blade leaves the core a little long.

This is the tool to get. Passthrough is so much easier for DIYers and less chance of wrong wiring.

Do you mind sharing why? Just curious.
Increased risk of cross talk/shorts with the exposed copper at the tip of the connector, or at least that's what I've been told- I don't have any study/proof

But I have known installers and facilities that refuse to use them.

100% agree. My cables run close to 100% working once I switched to this tool. It's awesome!

Interesting. I bought this in 2018 for a few bucks more, which I guess makes it a good price.
I am certain, however, that I have used it for non-pass-through connectors as well.

Ok, that reasoning doesn't make sense from an engineering stance and I have never heard that before from any of the communication techs I work with.

Yes, buying premade patch cable is the best but once a while I will need something odd at work so I use this. I probably won't pay this much for home use but then that's a small price in the scheme of things at work.

Ali has vendors that sell a pretty decent clone of this for $7 from the Choice section. I only use the real Klein a couple times a month for work, but I use the clone more frequently at home and it works just as well in my experience.

The passthrough crimp saves quite a bit of time and improves overall quality of the termination, at least in my experience. I don't do a ton of termination, but when I've got to do 50 or 100, I strongly prefer this style vs the classic trim first, then crimp ends. I get far less finger fatigue in a day of work.

Thanks for the recommendation. Do you usually go for the 1.1 or 1.2mm OD ones?

Field security technician here. Im crimping RJ45s everyday for cameras, card access equipment, fire alarm equipment, burglar equipment, etc... This is my go to crimper, it's smaller than most on the market and does the job every time. I actually paid a little more for mine, and I'd buy it again. If it's something you're going to use often, I'd recommend it.

Personally I like the crimper that has just the RJ-45 and not the RJ-11 crimp.

Klein Tools VDV226-005 Compact Modular Data Cable Crimping Tool, for Pass-Thru RJ45 Connectors https://a.co/d/3PoALq0

It's cheaper, smaller, and chances are you will never crimp an RJ-11 anyway.

Paid full price. If you're a homelabber, it's a must-have tool imo.

My job has this exact one and, after awhile, you need to purchase from Amazon the little $6 replacement blades because it will have trouble cutting 2 of the wires. Well anyway, I bought my own set for work to always have on me and it was a great investment. It's not a tool that the company buys for each individual. So I got tired of having to drive back to the shop in case it was needed, or having to guess if the blade was dull or not. But yeah, when you got a hectic job and you don't want to have to reterminate ends over and over because the brown white wire flipped places with the brown wire when pushing them in, this comes in handy! You know before you crimp the wire if they're all in the right spot or not. Which saves on wasting ends and having to redo your work over and over again.

Recommend a pair of flush cutters or nippers

It sounds like OP has never used these or any pass-through connectors as they have just heard from word of mouth. I work with lots of low voltage techs and they all use pass-through connectors with most using these crimpers and a handful using the Platinum Tools crimpers.
